The Golden Rule proposal called upon self-styled Christians to pass out cards to the DOS participants. From the start, the proposal was presented in an adversarial fashion. The proposal did not invite GR participants to be supportive of the DOS, nor did it acknowledge that DOS participants often are people of faith.

I would have appreciated it if Throckmorton had called upon GR participants to support the DOS, but he did not.

I would have appreciated it if Throckmorton had applauded the DOS participants for honoring the Golden Rule and for exemplifying strong moral and religious values, but he did not -- despite my suggestions that he do so. Instead, he sought to upstage the DOS while ignoring the central fact that antigay violence requires explicit and specific solutions such as GSAs and antibullying curricula.

To simply say "all violence is bad," while taking no concrete steps to stop it, is the mark of a moral coward, in my opinion. It may be better than Exodus and Focus on the Family, which deny that such violence exists, but it's still moral cowardice. Talk is cheap.

Early in their campaign, I politely invited Throckmorton and the GR Facebook group to explicitly oppose the bullies' boycotts and to affirm the values of the DOS participants. Throckmorton responded by removing me from the Facebook group due to my association with TWO. He failed to follow up on my suggestions.

I urged them again to do so <a href="http://www.truthwinsout.org/blog/ex-gays-not-so-golden-rule-for-stopping-bullies/" rel="nofollow">here</a>. Again, they did nothing.

"Despite a promising ad-hoc gesture of cooperation in a single locale, a rival "Golden Rule" protest organized by pro-exgay pundit Warren Throckmorton declined to oppose disruptive pro-violence boycotts; pitted self-styled Christians against antiviolence advocates; and refused to affirm the moral and religious values of those who oppose antigay violence and harassment in schools."

Gosh, I guess I missed that. In what school did Throckmorton pit self-styled Christians against anti-violence advocates? In all his postings on his site, the Golden Rule people joined the DOS in being silent but there may be schools he didn't list.

Nor did I see him refuse to affirm the moral and religious values of those who oppose anti-gay violence. It seemed to me that he said that opposing anti-gay violence was the morally right thing to do.

And was Throckmorton invited to oppose disruptive pro-violence boycotts, to which he declined?

If Throckmorton is doing all this, I really want to know about it. I don't want to make my judgements without the facts and I don't have the ones that you're listing here. Can you provide substantiation?
