In the process of writing Judaism and Homosexuality: An Authentic Orthodox View, the most important (really the only significant) full-length study of homosexuality and Jewish law, Rabbi Chaim Rapoport asked Jews Offering New Alternatives to Homosexuality (JONAH) if he could speak to some “success stories” – and he was unsatisfied with its meager response.
I have had much the same experience; while I have spoken to about two dozen JONAH men on the Internet, on the phone and in person, I have never encountered a single Jew who was gay (not bisexual) and became straight (not bisexual) due to the techniques recommended by JONAH. If its approach was effective, shouldn’t there be at least five or 10 men and women I could speak with who say that JONAH did for them what it claims to be able to do?
More scandal:
JONAH and its supporters seem to act Jewish just as long as they think they have to, to convert unsuspecting Jews into Christians.
I am no supporter of ex-gays or JONAH, but isn’t this latest Benkoff missive just more of the same? Everything he pens just comes down to some variation of people other than himself aren’t good enough/smart enough etc.
So here, the folks at JONAH aren’t as good as him, because he calls himself bisexual and they call themselves ex-gay. Not sure I believe he is any more bisexual than they are ex-gay.
And of course another of his favorites is pointing out how much more pious or truely Jewish he is compared to others….Yawn.
Benkoff does have a credibility problem. He’s notorious for misquoting gay people; we may have to wait and see how accurate these new claims are.
The reason that groups like JONAH & Evergreen don’t work is because with out the involvement of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit in the belief system of these two organizations FULL HEALING from homosexuality cannot occur. These two groups can taech abstinence and disassociating one from the evil of the gay subculture. And sexual abstinance is a good thing that is taught within both of these 2 ex-gay networks but it is the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit that really cleanses us. That is one of the reasons I left the Exodus network. They started to associate themselves with other ex-gay groups that were not fully Christian. I applaud the work of Evergreen & Courage & JONAH but they only have half of the remedy. Oh by the way Michael JESUS WOULD LAUGH AT YOU and have labels like hypocrite and Pharisee for a person like you. This Jewish woman knows that your spiritual soul is in jeopardy and wanted to help you leave the gay lifestyle behind. Jesus would applaud her for keeping you from a lifestle that is an abomination to Him and couldn’t care less about whether she broke a levitical law that he broke ever Jew & Christian and gentile from the day that HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD. So please refrain from tormenting old Jewish woman…because in the heart of your heart you know that she was only trying to show you love>>>
