A day after constitutional bans on marriage for gay people passed in three U.S. states, Kevin Ivers — formerly of the Log Cabin Republicans — writes:
I beg all of you with any energy left in you to wake up. I beg you to stop deluding yourselves about what it’s going to take to really change our situation in the United States. Stop believing promises and start demanding action. Stop scapegoating, and blaming ‘enemies’ and shifting responsibility for all our failures onto others, and take responsibility for everything we face. Stop living the reality show and start living in reality. And if you were active in this election cycle, don’t delude yourself into thinking that the fight is “won.” It is, in fact, almost completely lost as of this moment if you stand down now. Do more than just “know hope” — think different.
I’m not a fan of the Republican Party, but I agree with Ivers that the Democrats — and Barack Obama in particular — did too little to oppose the antigay marriage amendments in California, Arizona, and Florida.
Among pro-marriage, anti-amendment groups, outreach to African-American moderates and religious communities seems to have been inadequate. And gay people were virtually invisible in TV ads.
Members of sexual minority groups must stop waiting for benevolent leadership from above, and start asserting themselves.

I 100% agree with this! I felt the same way after this so called “defeat” to the gays. We need to stand up and fight back!
Also, thanks to Focus on the Family, they donated millions of dollars to all three propositions to deny people there basic human rights. Shame on them!
This country needs to change! I dont understand why its so intolerant? All the “minorities” need to stand up and FIGHT! If those “christians” want to tell us were pushing an agenda…THEN WE WILL PUSH THAT AGENDA and shove it down there ******* throats untill they get the point.
America needs to look at these anti-gay groups with shame. Theres a thing called tolerance, and it should be utilized in all aspects…but if there is one thing that needs to not be tolerated-its the intolerant!
Obviously, these right wing christian bigots have a say in society! People, do we want these people running our country? I think not! Thankfully we have Democrats in presidency, house, and senant; so we might see some change!
My heart goes out to all the supporters of “No on 8″…
It is time for a revolution. Out of the bars and into the streets every day. And NO TAXATION WITHOUT EQUALITY. If you insist on making me second class and keeping me there, you can do it without my money, and if jail is the price, so be it. As an unequal citizen, I am in a gilded cell as things stand. ENOUGH.
Another thought: Think of what Dr. King suffered — beatings, being jailed in Birmingham. That’s what it may take. Are you courageous enough to take that heat? Do you want change as badly as did Dr. King?
Natalie has raised all the suggestions and questions that need to be addressed. Also are we ready to fight when the right wingers come for us…physically fight, with weapons if necessary? Why have these “referendums” and “initiatives” been permitted from the getgo, since they are blatant denials of civil rights and liberties to a minority? Are they not obviously unconstitutional? Shouldn’t they have been struck down before being added to the slates?
The states who allowed these things to pass should begin submitting proof that the amendments serve legitimate secular purposes of all citizens and not religious sensitivities of the ignorant. We must be ready to fight all theocratic laws and push for a secular nation.
We at Truth Wins Out condemn physical violence.
Given the rise this year in antigay hate crimes that have been fueled by the hysteria pumped out by Focus on the Family, AFA, LifeSiteNews, and WorldNetDaily, gay people should certainly consider taking nonviolent self-defense courses.
The victory in Obama being elected is a victory. However, ignorance is different from stupidity. Alot of Americans are still ignorant of what being gay is all about. When I came out to my Mom these were her words to me ” Homosexuals are the vile of the earth because when I see them on TV in the gay parades prancng around displaying their gayness it makes me sick. I do not flaunt my heterosexuality like that on TV.” Well she had a point. People see stereotypes they think we are all dressing in drag, they think we are orgying it up every night, out in the gay bars stripping each other down every night, having sex in public bathrooms, and in parks any time we want. So this is what they believe. And when they are told ” The homos are going to go into churches and demand the preacher marry them or disrupt a service to spout off their pro-gay agenda” they believe it. Also when they are told ” Oh those homos they have over 100 partners a year in sex ” it is believed. When they are told ” Listen Mom and Dad.. the homos are going to go into your child’s school and promote homosexuality as a alternative lifestyle” it is believed. The only way to combat fear in others is to teach the truth. City seminars maybe can be held. Maybe Ellen can have real gay couples on her show and talk about the love, committment that is between the two and emphasize normalcy.. maybe they will see the truth. Truth Wins Out is doing a great job in combating ideas of change by therapy or just by prayer.
We may have a long road in getting to equality but it can be reached. We may not get their overnight, but we as a people can get there. It is not a dream it is a reality. Hence Obama.
