MSNBC reports on a growing trend in the Southern Baptist Convention: cowboy churches, where instead of dressing up in jackets, ties and long dresses, churchgoers fashion themselves like cowboys at a rodeo.
There are 140 such churches in Texas alone, and more in 11 other states. The largest church’s membership exceeds 2,000.
The trend is said to be spreading rapidly: Why attend church for prayer and penitence, after all, when one can join feel-good country sing-alongs and watch bull-riding?
Some people may view this as a sincere effort to reach the faithful where they’re at, but to me it seems like runaway cultural corruption and pandering — by the very denomination that poses as a beacon of moral and religious orthodoxy.

Would you please pray for my son who is in a custody battle with his ex-wife and ex-mother-in-law for his son. He has been the primary care giver since birth. He was taken away 4/1/09 because of false accusations. The ex-wife has also falsely accused him of a serious crime because of the divorce and custody battle. He will be going to court on May 6th on the criminal charges and on May 15th for temporary custody on his son. I saw his son on May 2nd and his is traumatized and neglected. He is only 2 and can’t defend himself. He has severe Asthma. Please pray that the Judges, DA, prosecutor and attorneys’ will see thru the lies and dismiss the charges. Please pray his attorneys’ will have the right words to get his son back. This has been a true nightmare please pray for strength for our whole family. Thank you, please send to all your churches.
