Well.. maybe it's just that I'm the epitome of naive, but I'm not, as of yet convinced. Maybe some of these men are some of the big time anti-lgbt villains to us, and we see and understand intrinsically their nature and how they are, as a result of long time exposure to their culture, particularly as children. But reading just the WIki page for Obama, it's clear he grew up surrounded by several very different cultures, bearing little resemblance to our(at least mine) own. He's not making cabinet members out of these men, perhaps he's trying to find away to gently nudge their followers (although doubtfully these men per se) into the 21st century without attacking the spirituality of a large part of the nation. In any case, I've been very impressed with Obama thus far, and will choose to give him the benefit of the doubt, because whatever the outcome, we've got almost 4 entire years ahead.

This is most disheartning! I look to the integrity of President Obama to bring about the change he promised. The change I voted for, and so admire.
Is this in or out of his character? I did not agree with, but understood Rev. Wright. His anger with white America is not a new sentiment amongst Blacks. At least not news to me. But that Mr. Obama would choose such anti-change and bigoted individuals to join him, and that he would ignore Nigeria and the bigotry and MURDER there is very, very upsetting to me. I wonder, will the real Barack Obama please stand up?

Thanks :-)

Wallis says <a href="http://blog.sojo.net/2009/03/16/obama%E2%80%99s-community-of-support-and-challenge/" rel="nofollow">here</a> that he wants to see other faiths join Obama's circle of five.

Whether Obama really wants that, is another matter.

Mike, for the record, I also don't put Wallis in the crackpot category. He is a waffler and straddles both sides of the fence. But, he is a sane and a mostly rational man.

As a former employee of Sojourners, I respectfully disagree with the characterization of Wallis as a crackpot.

However, I agree with most of this article.

We need for Obama to be a leader, not a follower -- and especially not a follower of sectarian religious authorities, among whom Jews, Muslims, and other religions are conspicuously absent.
