Rev. Aaron Dumas, an antigay pastor and advice columnist for The Jamaica Star, tells a lesbian that U.S. ex-gay political activists can cure her “lifestyle.” He advises her to seek out a “Christian counsellor” — certainly not one of those mainstream mental-health professionals who “would encourage you to continue to practise homosexuality.”

Anyone can change if he/she wants it badly. Placing your problem in the presence of God and allowing him to work in His way will work out better for you. I would like to share a site with you and your readers. http://wisejamaican.com.
Ksurrina, no one has ever succeeded in changing same sex attractions into opposite sex attractions. Stop lying to people and trying to lure them into a empty loveless life.
thru psychotherapy one maybe able to supress same sex urges and evenchange behavioural trends but for how long?
Orientation is another matter as we have seen many persons who have tried to curtail their same saex urges end up in self hate and guilty feelings forever riding their minds.
It’s difficult man.
I thought the church was to be embracing or tolerant and despite the sin of the individual encourage them to seek happiness in Christ, not become dictatorial and rigidly prescriptive to the point that it turns persons away from church doors and by extension christianity itself.

“Stop lying to people and trying to lure them into an empty loveless life.”
Very well put, Priya Lynn; that’ an excellent summing up of what “ex-gay” propaganda is all about.
A gay person’ need for a same-sex relationship is a perfectly legitimate one — as legitimate as a straight person’ need for a mixed-sex relationship.
It is true that there are plenty of gay people who unfortunately never find the relationship that they need — and the same is true for plenty of straight people also — but deliberately to try to prevent them from finding it or to try to break up existing relationships by (im)moral bullying is irresponsible, cruel and inhumane. I condemn it unreservedly.
I’d just like to add something further to my comment above on Priya Lynn’ injunction to Ksurrina:
“Stop lying to people and trying to lure them into an empty loveless life.”
There are “evangelical Christian” writers on the subject of homosexuality who effectively admit, practically in so many words, that that is precisely what they are trying to do.
In his very informative booklet, “Homosexualities: Faith, Facts and Fairy Tales”, Ralph Blair cites two of them.
The first is John White (an “evangelical” psychiatrist) who, in his book “Eros Defiled”, says that those who remain homosexual in their orientation must practise total abstinence from sexual activity. He admits that this will produce pain and profound depression, especially in those who he insists must abandon their life-partners. He concedes that “straight friends may find it hard to understand that you may deeply love someone of your own sex and that to break up with your lover will wound you”, and that after the break-up the “ex-gay” will experience lots of loneliness. But that, he insists, is what God demands.
The other is David Field, who in his booklet “The Homosexual Way” similarly demands complete sexual abstinence of all homosexual people. This not only sounds harsh, he admits; it IS harsh. He says that the homosexual who accepts this demand is in for “a very cold and grey life” without romantic intimacy, and adds that “However convinced he (or she) may be that the Holy Spirit will more than fill the empty spaces left by old habits and relationships, human loneliness can be something particularly hard to bear.” But he, too, insists that that is what God demands.
So this cruel, heartless god is the God whom Jesus Christ came into the world to reveal to us? I think not.
William, I am struck by the profound selfishness of people like Field and White, demanding for their own sake that gays deprive themselves of happiness.
Yes, Priya, that’s exactly how I feel too, and the older I get, the more I despise the attitude of people like Field and White.
Priya no one was born to be an homosexual. If he/she goes inside of a life style and want to change he/she can. Nothing is impossible with God but you the individual has to seek his help. No pastor or church brethren can do that for you. Suggesting that a person cannot change is just wrong.
Ksurrina, there’s never been a single person that’s changed from same sex attractions to opposite sex attractions, its never been documented despite every attempt to do so, it just does not happen. You can fantasize about your imaginary god all you want, but that’s all it’ll ever be, a fantasy.
You can prove it to yourself. Your bible says that if you have faith the size of a mustard seed you can move a mountain. So, put it to the test, try to move a mountain and see what happens. Try to levitate yourself off the ground and see if nothing is impossible with your imaginary god. Will yourself to win the lottery, put it to the test.
Admit, it Ksurrina, you know the truth, many, many things are impossible, you can’t do them, never could, and never will regardless of your imaginary friend.
Some people just are gay, that is the way they were meant to be and that is the way they’ll remain no matter how much you wish and pray it weren’t the case. There’s nothing wrong with this though, as long as we aren’t hurting others anything we do is good and moral. You’re trying to deprive people of love and happiness, that by definition is immoral. Just stop it Ksurrina, its destructive, wrong, and evil.
Ksurrina, unlike Priya I do believe in God, but my answer to you is basically the same as hers.
God can change the colour of my eyes from blue to brown, but I know that he won’t, nor do I want him to.
Similarly, God can change my sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual, but I know that he won’t, nor do I want him to.
Suggesting that people should fritter away their lives fretting over their natural sexual orientation and trying to pester God to change it is just wrong.
God can change my sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual…… in exactly the same way as he can stop a hijacked plane, piloted by the most godly people imaginable, flying into a skyscraper.
