Pam Spaulding breaks the situation down with her usual excellence and candor:

A black teen-ager who was verbally assaulted and “exorcised” by his pentecostal church earlier this year tells a skeptical Tyra that he is cured of his sexual orientation.

Basically my feelings are this: Unless the black community comes to grips with the fact that lgbts of color exist and talk with us instead of looking at us as outsiders, expect more nonsense like this.

  1. Speak truth, Alvin. Stick it to those who say it’s “poor black folks” against “rich white gays and their lawyers.”

I think it’s a blessing to be able to claim both civil rights movements as one’s own. Others have said before, it will take the queers of color educating their own community about civil rights to get hearts and minds to come around. It’s all part of the same human civil rights movement.

  2. What a load of BS My father was a Pentecostal preacher and I have been at an exorcism and it is all a show. I am a proud gay man and this proves once again that religion is the root of all evil and this man will be with another man or dead soon you mark my word. I feel sorry for him because he feels so alone he has to lie to himself and others. They should be ashamed and arrested for assault
