Particularly sad given the time of year. The annual Transgender Day of Remembrance comes in a couple weeks and we are mourning the loss of 19 human beings murdered in cold blood simply for feeling about their gender the way they did. Many of their respective murders have gone unpunished or underpunished because "it's not like I murdered a school teacher" defense. Hate Crimes legislation sends the message that trans people are people too and deserve justice under the federal government.
