Thanks for the clarification -- as I was writing the post, my opinion was already evolving, but I failed to remove the "however."

Mike -- it is (normally) considered 'inappropriate' for the Senate to consider any such motions. It is long-standing parliamentary practice that they simply get dismissed without debate. This is what again occurred this time: as the division shows.

This should not be read to mean that the Senate therefore approves of Uganda's impending law, or is indifferent to it. Your use of "However" suggests something that is not the case. (Perfectly understandable as you've relied on that woefully inadequate SSO report.)

As with both the UK and France, Australia deals with this type of issue via Cabinet, the Minister and the Department rather than in the Parliament.

What has been done by that lot, or is intended... I don't yet know. I can but ask, but would agree it is high-time that the Minister did release an official statement.

Then again... we haven't yet got one of those from Exodus either...
