In the video, Richard Cohen uses two magnets to prove that it is natural for opposites to attract and likes to repel. In magnetic physics, that is correct. But to compare human beings to magnets is to mix apples and oranges. He therefore makes a syllogistic logical error with the nonsense about magnetic poles and “opposites attract”.

It is similar to the logical error, “All Dogs have ears. Mike has ears. Therefore Mike is a dog.”

Life is more complex and there are other factors to consider.

If the “magnet theory” were to apply to human psychology, then all peaceful people would be irresistibly drawn to their opposite, aggressive people. Tall people would be attracted to short people, and so on. This simply is not the case.

The danger with people like Cohen is that they use syllogistical logical errors and half truths in their agenda and people are fooled by it.

The interview was great, but I wished Rachel would have also called him on something he said several times: “I’ve helped thousands of people leave homosexuality.” Where are they? Who are they? Why are they not standing up with him? Could it be that they don’t exist?

Also, if a lack of love by a father or mother causes homosexuality, how does this quack explain all the heterosexuals who had bad relationships with same-sex parents? None would exist if this quack were correct, yet we know many, many, many exist.

Just saw the interview, Rachael really nailed this nutjob, she even called in his credentials as a “professional”. BTW, Cohen has come out against this kill the gays bill.

Horrible…joyously frolicing around and grandstanding while attempting to prove over-imagined theories regarding LGBT people is just plain BAD racketeering…it¬¥s a racket in Uganda, Nigeria and sometimes in Ft. Worth and Fresno…pontificating with quasi-rational regarding LGBT intimacies is about as sane as blood-letting cures the common cold…problem is, in Uganda, the fundamentalist ¬®religious¬® faith healers and their over-hyped and emotionally handicapped cult of followers are willing to commit GENOCIDE in the name of God they have NO KNOWLEDGE OF…afterall loving thy neighbor as self and thou shalt not KILL, do have REAL meaning if translated properly to bigots and feardriven extremists of every stripe.

“Homosexuality is not about sex, but about seeking the love of the father or the mother.” So said that man in Uganda, basing himself on Richard Cohen’s pseudo-scientific claptrap.

If this screwball theory were really true, wouldn’t gay men always be hooking up with other men of their fathers’ age or of the age group that their fathers were when they were children? Some may happen to do so, of course, but most don’t. And so the whole ridiculous theory falls to the ground.
