I think this article would have more force if it didn't use the term "ho" which is so demeaning to the sex worker. What? We are going to help end the oppression of one group by continuing another?
And before we start the long tirade of how homosexuality is not a choice and a life of prostitution is, I'd like to remind you that the US has one of the highest rates of human slavery in the world and that a good portion of the sex workers in this country come from that group.

"Hooker therapy" is not a new idea. Many decades ago, my mother confessed that my father was seriously thinking of taking me to a prostitute because it would show me that sex with a woman was better than sex with a man. My father also thought it would allow me to gain confidence with women and to lose my interest in men. I wondered if he had thought of this idea from personal experience when he was a boy!

My father was a highly educated white, Ph.D. scholar who was non-religious and a supporter of racial equality even while living in the racially segregated state of Louisiana, but he was still swayed by the homophobia of his times. Unfortunately, he died before any of the colleagues he respected had come out of the closet. I am sure he would have changed his mind about gay people.

From an early age, I found the sight of half-naked women to be repellent.

Context did not matter -- it could have been the sight of 'hos, Playboy, a hippie picnic, sickly conservative descriptions of heterosexuality, or guesses about what my female classmates looked like.

None of these ex-gay ploys worked.

The conclusion is obvious: I was repelled by heterosexuality.

Heterosexuality made me gay.
