KA-POW, girl!I dunno, you guys, but Randy Thomas is absolutely queening out over the fact that Sarah Palin has gotten a new job (on top of her Facebook gig!) mangling the English language on Fox News.  He is so excited that he is saying “KA-POW!”, which is presumably an extremely Heterosexual Tuff Guy™ version of “U go gurl!”

Randall goes on to share some emoticons and other Guy Stuff, and then adds

I am not real heavy into politics…

We know, sweetheart.  We know.

Also, read your Wonkette on the subject of Mooseberries’ new “job.”

  2. It’s too small, and I couldn’t find a bigger one, unfortunately.

  3. Actually, among the article archives on his website, I was very moved Randy Thomas’s account of his distress at the death of his former lover, his fears of contracting HIV, and the support he had from his gay friends at the time. (see http://www.boundless.org/2005/articles/a0001724.cfm).

I can understand the fears that drove him to fundamentalism, and I can well imagine there are many who would not be here today without such ‘Road to Damascus’ conversions back in the 80s.

Indeed, the particular lifestyle he was leading – that of a drug addict – was dangerous and destructive. Such a pity for himself that such an existence was all he understood of what being gay was about.

It’s also a great shame he can’t value the goodwill and charity he experienced from his gay friends in his lowest moments for what it was – natural goodness that required no divine intervention.

It seems to me that: Mr Thomas’s particular biblical world view is essential to him, in order to achieve redemption. Recovering from drug addiction, abstaining from dangerous sex parties would not be possible without a belief in talking snakes, wine being turned into water, virgin births, the dead being brought back to life, eternal torment in hell. Otherwise, he has wasted over a decade of his life, and there would be no-one on whom to throw all his responsibilities.

Sarah Palin (her hiring by Fox News is hardly a departure in editorial policy, she joins a long list of bimbos, creeps and crackpots), who expects the Rapture to occur in her lifetime, is the reassuring ventriloquist who will tell him what he needs to hear.

However, there is a grain of truth in some things Thomas says: look at the problem of certain drugs at circuit parties (not exclusively a gay issue by any means). A small minority of people cannot cope. The GLBT community should do more to look after each other. As long as communities exist where gay people are forced into the shadows or to live a double life, and where there is no freedom to be yourself or meet others outside the club world, there will always be a need for the kind of salvation offered by Exodus.

  4. I agree with your premise, that the LGBT community needs to do more in regards to taking care of those who fall, but at the same time, it’s been a long time, and if Randy Thomas still hasn’t taken responsibility for his poor choices, and still blames them on his sexuality, then he sets himself up for ridicule.

    And Blingees.

  5. For sure. Though anyone who thinks Sarah Palin has something useful to say about anything is setting themselves up for a fall, Evan ;-)

  6. My favorite suggestion for the title of her show was “Sarah Palin Makes Sense,” because, you know, how awesome?

Another idea was “Incomprehensible Word Salad with Sarah Palin.”
