This was a travesty of justice and I hope it can be circumvented in some way in the not too distant future. And, you're right, these rightwing social conservative groups are still being played for the fools that they are. Radio talkshow host Randi Rhodes always said that the republican power elites will never overturn roe v wade as they know what a cash cow it is for them at election time. The scotus ruling will only help the filthy rich who have no conscience (like the conservatives on the court) and they will leave the social conservatives twisting in the wind with the rest of us, as they continue to destroy the middle class, which is and has been their intention for the past 30 years.

This is a horrible decision and another plank on the road to many just giving up and moving out of the US in the upcoming years. I find it absurd that large pro-homophobia advocacy groups are crowing about "transparency" and "freedom of speech," while they work to circumvent campaign reporting laws, non-profit laws, broadcasting of trials, etc. when it involves issues with which they disagree. If anti-equality activists are so worried about "transparency," why do they work so hard to keep the Prop. 8 trial from being televised?

Who knows?

Regardless, that's their editorial page, and they're one of the only real national newspapers left. And they're damn right on this issue.

There's something oddly cynical about an editorial published by the New York Times Company reflecting the views of that corporation containing the line:
"Most wrongheaded of all is its insistence that corporations are just like people and entitled to the same First Amendment rights."

If the BCRA were applied equally and did not contain the exception for legacy media, I'm sure the New York Times Company would have been first in line filing an amicus brief supporting Citizens United.
