I spoke directly to Maggie Gallagher in my post below, about the true meaning of compassion and tolerance. I hope she reads it.
News has come out, though, that Maine’s ethics commission has denied the National Organization for Marriage’s (NOM) request that an investigation into their finances be delayed until the federal Proposition 8 case is decided in California. Their mere request for the delay is telling, which leads us to watch this investigation with keen interest.
What on earth are they about to find?

From a legal point of view, I fail to see what possible arguement could be used that the outcome of the Prop 8 trial would have any bearing whatsoever on the failure of NOM to comply with the campaign financing disclosure laws of Maine.
My guess is not that they’re worried about the outcome in Maine, but rather the Maine investigation affecting the outcome in the Federal trial.
My real concern is that this is just a symptom of this sudden rash of radical conservative activists deciding that they don’t have to follow laws which the rest of us must follow. NOM doesn’t have to follow campaign financing laws; churches don’t have to follow tax-exempt status laws and rulings; doctors may be murdered if one disagrees with their pro-choice stance; children can be kidnapped from their parents; the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution doesn’t apply to law-abiding, taxpaying, gay Americans; radical conservative activists breaking into a Senator’s office (just a prank, you know); you can deny and attack and revile those exercising their freedom of speech if you are blond and an ex-beauty queen, etc. The shocking is that they don’t even bother to try and hide their crimes–they brag about disobeying laws online (Manhattan Declaration)! What kind of country do we live in where some citizens can just flagrantly, openly and unapplogetically violate laws and rules?
Re: James O’Keefe and his three ne’er do well friends breaking into Landrieu’s office:
I think it’s really funny watching the IOKIYAR* rule come into effect in shining focus on this one. And by funny, I mean, “funny like when you see somebody trip.” The usual suspects are falling all over themselves declaring O’Keefe a “hero” for exposing a “liberal conspiracy” of some sort, but they have no effing clue WHAT that conspiracy might have been that they claim he was exposing, etc.
But they’re so stupid that it doesn’t cross their minds that, um, hello, the FBI nabbed these guys for a reason. Also? It’s hilarious watching these morons hail a journalist as a hero while lambasting the sons-of-J Edgar Hoover as complicit in a liberal conspiracy.
The wingnut mind cannot hold education, or history, or anything requiring the processing of information.
They are merely empty containers covered in skin.
