Reading it I couldn't help but think of the role that industry and technology also played in the holocaust. IBM supplied the Nazi government with information technology (in the form of Hollerith punchcard systems) that greatly helped the Nazis to identify, locate and imprison Jews. Without that technology thousands if not millions of Jews might have escaped in time. Edwin Black's book, "IBM and the Holocaust" provides the gory details. My point is that the systematic persecution that results from the cruelty you write about can be carried out through the greed of faceless corporations. If they start rounding up homosexuals you can bet the big information technology companies, social networking sites, and search engine companies will be at the service of the persecutors.
