A lesbian in New York goes to get a marriage license with her longtime partner, on camera. Of course, she is denied. To prove her point, she then finds a random gay man named Ed, introduces herself, and then asks for a marriage license for herself and Ed instead.
I think she proved her point.

This reminds me of when I was at the University of Otago (New Zealand), the then president of the student’s union, a lesbian, made the same point by marrying a male friend of hers.
Married students receive extra benefits, like for housing etc.
