Many thanks to Rob Tisinai for pointing out a serious loophole in Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill.
The wording of the legislation allows Uganda to execute anyone found guilty of repeat offences involving homosexuality “or related offences” which include speaking out in defense of tolerance, or being a relative, pastor or doctor of a homosexual and refusing to report that person to the authorities for execution.
I was skeptical about the concerns involving this loophole late last week, but Rob has convinced me.

OMG, no wonder Dick Cheney is now reconsidering his position on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell!
Sorry, I was trying to be funny because this is so ridiculous. I am beyond disgusted with Uganda. This should not be happening. If this passes, I hope the US and the EU will boycott Uganda.
I agree Steven. The Parliament or whatever their legislative houses are called are going insane. Just unbelievable!

Thank God Uganda is one country that isn’t grovelling before the deviants agenda disguised as “human rights.”
Hey Greg,
Have you ever noticed that the nations most accepting of their gay citizens are among the nations ranking highest in every measure of human well-being and prosperity? And have you noticed that the nations treating gays with vile contempt are among the nations ranking lowest in those measures? Even within the United States a similar correlation can be seen (to some degree) among the states.
If the people of Uganda want to improve their lives, they might want to start with a focus on education to reduce their ignorance, illiteracy, superstition, and poverty, rather than scapegoating gays as the solution to their problems. The scapegoating of unpopular minority groups has always been an effective way for people, governments, and religious leaders to deflect responsibility for their own failures.
Greg– i’m only willing to let you grovel before me if you’re really cute. But with an attitude like yours, I suspect that cute is not going to cut it.
Otherwise, I have no interest in your grovelling, though it does interest me that a nation as dirt poor and corrupt as Uganda is and has been since the British gave them their own head refuses to grovel before the all powerful DEVIANT Homosexual Agenda– much better than the old garden variety agenda.
Yet the most prosperous, peaceful, democratic countries in the world have determined that not only is the all powerful agenda of the all powerful homosexuals not a bad thing, but that there isn’t any agenda except to get you people to leave us alone.
Also: the happiest, most successful nations in the world, by EVERY measure, are the least religious ones.
(N.B., for morons: We are talking about free nations here, not nations where the state IS the religion, which is just another form of theocracy. We’re talking about free countries like those of Scandinavia, where they believe the least and live the best.)
Greg said, “Thank God Uganda is one country that isn’t grovelling before the deviants agenda disguised as “human rights.””
If you were a god meddling in human affairs, would you bestow rewards on those who grovel to your whims? Or would you view them with contempt and make their lives miserable because they are too ignorant, gullible, and fearful to think independently? If you believe a god exists, then it looks like he has taken the latter approach. And that would explain why countries like Uganda are suffering at the bottom of every measure of human well-being, while the least religious and gay-accepting countries are enjoying the rewards of having the highest levels of human well-being on earth.
Ben in Oakland, and Evan, well said.
Evan, I have spent a lot of time in the Nordics…even the non religious there will tell you that their national ideas of social justice, justice and equality, and tolerance, come largely from their Lutheran traditions. They, even the non religious, gay and lesbians, make frequent reference to this, are far less anti religious than a lot of the posters here, even if they dont really believe, and only get married in the church for the architecture and good photo opportunities. Religion is not always the corrosive force we see with the nutbag brigade….there were and are plenty of Rev. Gomes out there!
Love your site, love your commentary, but, I did want to say that. Sadly, I have some friends who dont come here anymore because they feel it is anti religious ( I tell them I dont necessarly see it that way, just that some posters are understandably angry at wingnuts)…and, if you remember my cousin who had an eppiphany after reading this site (THANK YOU!), well, his only complaint is that it seems, intentionally or not, to denegrate faith and people of faith in general…not just the bigots who deserve it.
Like I said, I love your site, and it is yours to run as you see fit, but, as its manager, I thought you might want to get that bit of feedback. Thanks.

I’m sure religious people like to believe this, but I doubt very much that its true. If you’ve got a scientific poll to back up that claim it can be reconsidered.
Wow, Greg, coming out in favor of mass murder. You’re a real Christian.
