My name is Peter LaBarbera. I am a 47-year-old, happily married father of five living in Naperville, and I am asking for your vote to serve as Republican State Central Committeeman for the 13 Congressional District of Illinois.
I entered this race as a strong fiscal and social conservative in the model of Illinois’ own Ronald Reagan. I believe that the IL-GOP is badly in need of reform and that we can be better served than by our current leaders — including my opponent, Roger Claar ‚Äî who have put power over principle and lost sight of the greatness that a conservative Republican Party can achieve.
As a Reagan Republican, my dream for the Illinois Republican Party is that it would return to the standards of conservatism, decency, integrity and high principle of the man who grew up here, in Dixon, and who as President restored American greatness and accomplished what many said was impossible: to force the demise of Soviet Communism, an “Evil Empire” (as Reagan called it) and the most murderous political system ever created.
He tacks through his “beliefs” or whatever, and somehow doesn’t see fit to share all the amazing work he’s done over the years going to leathersex festivals and taking hundreds of pictures for his personal collection! And honestly, I think that’s important! The constituents of the Illinois 13th should know about Peter’s mad skillz as a nude male photographer! Also, he is an expert on military themed gay porn! Who knows, maybe the denizens of Illinois 13 have been having trouble finding military themed gay porn! Well, here you go! Peter knows where it is! And if you have a friend or family member who’s gay and getting married, Peter will write them an insane personal letter condemning their love. How many people in America would do that to for a person they’ve never met? Peter will. That’s the kind of guy he is.
Anyway, exciting!
He can’t be serious. All anybody need do is take a look at that hideous blog of his to know he’s utterly unfit to hold any office–even that of dog catcher. But hey, if he’s actually going to attempt it more power to him. It might distract him for a few months.
Pro-bullying, pro-hate crimes, anti-gay activist LaBarbera is unfit for office. Besides the fact that he makes a mockery of Christ, he promotes himself as a fiscal conservative like Ronald Reagan, but purposely leaves out the part where Reagan tripled the deficit. This is another example of his lying which goes so far as to call the forefathers of our country liars for proclaiming that all men are created equal.
Mr. LaBarbara developed and executed a business plan designed to generate sufficient revenue to support his family by using Gay American Citizens as the tool with which he hoped to inspire some really sick folks to join his organization and pay him $ 20.00 per month.
His goal has been to lure one thousand people to send him twenty dollars a month. His only business expense is the daily maintenance of a web site to incite fear of gay people in his core customer base.
I have followed his site daily from the start. Initially I monitored his site because I am a former US Army Infantry Officer and I learned that it is prudent to know your enemy. After monitoring his site for a year I realized that AFTAH is not only not a threat but indeed, very much like the “God Hates Fags” church his idiocy is more likely to inspire support for Gay AMericans from rational people.
I suppose we have now reached the point where Peter is realizing that the initial financial support he had received from a few crazy people has now dwindled down to the point that his anti-gay business plan is no longer viable.
Hence the man needs a job and he would now like to stick his snought in the govenment trough.
As a matter of interest is there anyone out there who can publish the financials of AFTAH. I assume since they ask for donations that they must be required to provide the State with some type of annual report.

Richard Lewis: I suspect your theories are on the right track. I also wonder (but don’t know), what information about AFTAH’s finances is in the public record?
Demographic and cultural shifts are not on his side, not remotely. There are ever fewer people who share his beliefs, and, further, what the hell return on investment could possibly come from a donation to his “organization”? There probably aren’t a whole lot of people who are willing to lighten their wallets to be solely this strange, creepy, homosexuality-obsessed guy’s personal cheerleader, with not one iota of social, policy, or legislative change as a result.
So I think he’s shopping for new venues and exposure, and a new career. After years of a full-time focus on “the truth about homosexuality,” and perhaps realizing — to his great disappointment, no doubt — that his AFTAH enterprise is severely weird and offputting to most people, now he suddenly is a “Ronald Reagan Republican.” Huh? Ronald Reagan was no friend of gay people (cf. ignoring AIDS), but he was nowhere the near the insane homophobic freak that LaBarbera is. It’s like Fred Phelps saying that he’s “in the mold of Dwight Eisenhower.”
It seems apparent to me that LaBarbera is trying to re-market himself to be more palatable to a few more people. Unfortunately for him, though, he’s got this huge, readily available history of his endless posts about perverted gay sex, and has traveled out of town to take photos of perverted gay sex in public, and apparently had collected magazines featuring images of perverted gay sex. Et cetera. He’s had such enormous concern about homosexuality, strangely, that he lives and breathes it. He sees it as “the elephant in the living room” when others are unconcerned.
He’s been professional homosexualitian.
I just can’t imagine his being a homosexualitian being any sort of advantage with Joe and Mary Central Illinois Republican, even if they might happen themselves have some homophobic inclinations. They are likely to ask, as so many have before, “What the hell is this guy’s problem?!”
Well, and Jess, it’s funny, because the kind of sex Peter photographs bears very little resemblance to the actual gay person’s sex life. I mean, I’m friends with a LOT of gay people, and whoa look, I’m a gay guy too.
And really? I’m effing cute. And my sex life is NOTHING like the pictures Peter takes. I mean, granted, I have Teh Sexes sometimes, and I try to make it special, but I’m the marrying type, so I’m mostly holding out for my future husband.

Evan, I am a gay man also…and in a committed relationship to boot! I must be about the only gay person alive whose sex life is as tame as it gets. Sure, there may be guys out there that MAY do what Peter is photographic…but I’m not one of them. The pictures he takes are not representative of most of the gay and lesbians that I know offhand. I guess Peter never heard of the word subversive or subversive groups, groups that are outside the mainstream of the regular community.

By pretending you are victims it is you who are the agressors not peter not the church or any other pro family group. I have a healthy obsession with anyone who, oh,
- wants all discrimination laws covering sexual orientation eradicated
- thinks homosexuality is a choice (and a sinful choice at that)
- regularly and frequently maligns gay people in absurd and obscene ways
- is interested in what he thinks should make me happy and fulfilled in life, and not interested in my own perspectives and experience on what makes me happy and fulfilled in life. (His behavior here is called narcissism, by the way.)

If you are gay, Peter is a threat to your happiness and equality. Well, specifically, it’s his views that are a threat. Peter himself and his continual folly are not exactly a threat. If anything, in fact, like Fred Phelps and a couple dishonest beauty pageant contestants that have recently been in the news, he’s a dialectical boon.
