The last time Wall says she had contact with Miller was in late September. Up to that point, she believes Miller was working behind the scenes on her escape. It’ a decision they support.
“I do support what she’s done,” Wall said. “When the law is wrong, what’s a person to do?”
Likening the situation to the underground railroad during slavery, “Was it Harriet Tubman who risked her life for the underground railroad for the black community? Maybe I am committed to this for the children I might be that one voice.”
Linda, I’m “unbeknowing” whether you’re ignorant of history or getting caught up in lies, but I should point out that the comparisons to Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad run the risk of being revelatory, since Harriet Tubman decidedly did know where the Underground Railroad was, since she personally helped a number of slaves escape. What other historical figures do you identify with, Linda? Miep Gies, perhaps?
All of these comparisons are silly, obviously, because all Lisa Miller is doing is trying to “protect” her child from her other loving mother, Janet Jenkins, who has a legal and moral right to be in Isabella’s life.
The fact that Wall’s and Miller’s interpretations of reality are straight out of a C.S. Lewis fever dream should have no bearing on what they’re allowed to do in actual reality.

These people seem deeply unhappy and disturbed. They want to give their empty lives meaning by becoming “patriots” or “martyrs”.
However, they are just the same miserable, soulless human beings who attempt to elevate themselves thorough their fantastical religious fantasies and grandiose visions as four-star generals in God’s Holy Army.
In reality, we really have a kidnapper and those who are aiding and abetting the common criminal.
Both the child thief and all accomplices deserve to do hard time behind bars for their illegal activity and moral malfeasance.

Since Linda Wall invokes the heroism of a woman who actually understood her own oppression and fought against it (instead of internalizing it and perpetrating it against others), perhaps a quote (possibly mis)attributed to Harriet Tubman is in order:
When asked how she managed to save hundreds of enslaved people through the Underground Railroad, Tubman replied: “I freed thousands of slaves. I could have freed thousands more, if they had known they were slaves.”

She might have a point if she was actually helping enslaved lesbians escape from Vermont to Virginia.
But she isn’t. And she wouldn’t. So she doesn’t have a point.
If, if… just assuming an Alice In Wonderland World… Virginia was to categorically offer ‘life time refuge’ for the fugitive Miller tomorrow… I can bet my bottom dollar that Miller would appear at a celebration service at Thomas Roads that very day.
And an unremarkable, obvious, list of people would be boasting they knew where she was all along.
They live in a parallel Universe.
That is manageable for a hippie commune of 12 people for 2 years, but not when it involves 30% of the country for 3 decades.

Anyone have any ideas about how to get that 30% to reintegrate with the rest of the country?
Seriously. I don’t care whether they become liberals or not, they just need to have a reality-based understanding of their rights and responsibilities as US citizens.
Until that happens, every election cycle is going to be dangerous. I don’t quite see President Palin, but there’s Huckabee, Gingrich, Tancredo, Brownback, Jindal, and God knows who else waiting in the wings.

Compulsory nation-wide public schooling, and no other, using a tested nation-wide curriculum from the ages of 4 to 16. No-one can go on to recognised further education without passing. Parents can instruct their own personal crap at home to their own children, out of hours.
You asked for an idea. You didn’t ask for something achievable. :)

Unfortunately, with most of the nation’s school textbook curricula being written by fundamentalist education boards in Texas, compulsory public schooling under current circumstances might just reinforce popular contempt for the Constitution and idolatry toward what Southern Baptists falsely claim is the Bible.
