Michael Glatze was a founder of a gay teenybopper magazine. Then, he seemed to have some sort of nervous breakdown and became an outspoken “ex-gay” activist.
During this phase, he wrote a couple of obnoxious and misleading articles for World Nut Daily. However, his time on the “ex-gay” circuit was short-lived.
On Nov. 20, 2009, Glatze sent out a bizarre E-mail saying that he would no longer be a spokesperson for the “ex-gay” industry. His demise as a mindless mouthpiece came after he wrote a racist rant against president Barack Obama on his rambling vanity blog.
“Have I mentioned lately how utterly *disgusting* Obama is? And, yes, it’ because he’ black. God, help us all,” wrote Glatze.
According to Glatze’s goodbye e-mail:
“After a lot of praying, I have decided I am NOT meant to be a spokesperson for the cause of healing from homosexuality….God has given me deliverance from the homosexual sin — but, He is not asking me to stand on a platform, as an activist, against my former lifestyle.”
Not surprisingly, the fickle and capricious Glatze is already back in action. He will appear on Porno Pete LaBarbera’s new radio show “The Americans for Truth Hour.” The gig is on a Chicago Christian radio station on Saturday evenings during the graveyard shift. I’m sure the ratings will be through the roof.
It seems from Glatze’s letter that God was very clear when he said: “He is not asking me to stand on a platform, as an activist, against my former lifestyle.”
Yet, here Glatze is – in less than six months – standing on the very platform God told him to avoid. A person who would openly defy God to appear on a hate group’s radio show in the dead of night (with an audience you can count on one hand) is the definition of a media whore. (no offense to sex workers)
Despite God’s admonition, Glatze still hasn’t changed. He is the same grandstanding hypocrite who is drawn to the spotlight like a mosquito in June.
Just another attention-w***e. I must say though that he is apparently something of an equal opportunity hater. I have issues with Obama but they have nothing to do with race but everything to do with his failure to keep his promises to the GLBT community.
Glatze has demonstrated that he is a few fries short of a Happy Meal. If he is on public airwaves, he is going to have to behave on some level. I am unconvinced that he is actually capable of controlling his emotions and his words on live radio. I doubt his time on the radio will last very long, and the FCC fine he gets for obscenity or whatever else he does will set Porno Pete back a bit. Maybe he can sell some of his vintage S&M videos. Perhaps, like books, first editions of “classics” will command some sort of market premium.

Mr. Glatze, I agree with you 100%. I have been gay all my life, I am now 54 and the Lord has pulled me from the lie. I am writing a book called, ‘It Doesn’t Necessarily Get Better”, and it destroys the lie of being “Born this Way”. Christ is Truth, and homosexuality is a lie. Christ is the answer, and you who are gay, all know it in your hearts. I have been there, done and seen it…and it is a lie. Wake up gay people, the Truth you will face now or later. If anyone is wondering why this thread suddenly came to life Glatze is the subject of one of two articles in the New York Times this week. I noticed on some conservative site a link to an article about how Glatze “became straight” which was met by a chorus of “hallelujahs!” from the readers of that site, but it was simply a link to the old World Nut Daily article from 2007. Evan Hurst said he would be posting about them on this blog later.
Bobinbigbear, your use of the phrase, “homosexuality is a lie,” shows how detached from reality you are. You used the word, “lie,” four times in your comment to reinforce your delusion. Maybe if you say it often enough, you can convince yourself, but the absurdity is easily debunked by empirical evidence.
Rational people discern facts and truth by looking for, and examining, empirical evidence. Religious fanatics discern “facts” and “truth” through wishful and magical thinking.

Apparently Benjie Nycum (his ex-partner) participated in an interview in 2007 (shortly after Glatze came out as ex-gay). The interview was posted at http://verbotenmedia.net/contents/JM070907h1.mp3, but is no longer online there. I haven’t been able to find it anywhere else, but if anyone can find it I’d be very interested in hearing it. More than anything, I feel sorry for Glatze. The NY Times article (and the accompanying picture) just show how sad he is. Clearly, although he might be able to control his homosexual desires, he is not straight.

You are calling Michael Glatze a hater and a hypocrite, yet your article is full of hate towards him. So who’s the hypocrite?
This man was simply trying to share how God’s love set him free from the sin and shame that a homosexual lifestyle enslaved him to for years. I have several friends who have had the same experience.
God loves the LGBT community so much that He is raising up people with this message. It’s sad that one person misquotes a man and puts up a nasty picture and everyone judges him falsely. I’m sure the man is not perfect, but that doesn’t disqualify his story.
Please try not to pass judgment on us. There is hope!
I disdain Glatze the individual. He hates an entire people in the guise of religion. It’s okay to dislike individuals. It’s wrong to hate groups. That’s called bigotry. Understand the difference?
if he was enslaved to shame (being gay is no sin, as better churches than yours will point out saint) it was only because of bigots who sadly convinced him of this. He is a bigot, and a gay man in denial who hates other gays. Sad, truly, very sad.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the two pictures at the article at http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/19/magazine/my-ex-gay-friend.html?pagewanted=1 are worth 1,000 x 1,000 or 1,000,000 words. The one picture shows Michael and his lover Ben when they were still youths. Ben, with a smile on his face, has his head resting on Michael’s left shoulder with his arm around his neck. Michael is not smiling but he is certainly not sad; I would describe his look as one of reserved intelligence.
The other picture is of the now 36 year old Michael. The profound sadness in his face is unmistakable. But frightenly is the barely suppressed rage in his demeanor. Look into the eyes of the younger gay Michael and then into the older so-called ex-gay Michael. Those evil monsters, arrogantly calling themselves saviors of our gay brethren, have infused into Michael the very Demon that lives in their own hate-driven souls.
