He’s rare, even, as Wayne points out, in religious conservative circles. Like Phelps, he’s fringed himself out of acceptability even among >99% of conservatives. For example, he went to Maine and said “the elephant in the room is homosexuality” — OK, the man has issues — when the anti-gay marriage organization there didn’t want their campaign to be about “the badness of homosexuality.”

I practice homosexual sex on occasion, and I “engage in homosexuality” in my attractions, otherwise, every day. I am never not homosexual. I also pay taxes, have an honest job, and contribute to the community. In LaBarbera’s eyes, though, I am a sinner, and unhealthy of mind, soul, and body — per the crazy, disgusting note he wrote unsolicitedly to Jeremy Hooper in advance of the latter’s wedding.

About that “unhealthy” thing: I would DARE Peter LaBarbera to compare physicals with me. DARE him. I would DARE him to compare my HDL and LDL levels, etc. to his. Guys like him raise my health insurance rates. Look at him in the video of the “elephant” speech: He’s overweight. I am not. I really cast no aspersions on overweight people, but he is a FUCKING HYPOCRITE for maligning “homosexuality” as “unhealthy.” (He would certainly dispute this, but, in my view, the unhealthiness of his mind and soul are off the charts. His general stress level has got to be out of control, too. Can you imagine? Blue Cross would not welcome him as a customer.)

He’s obviously thinking foremost about HIV/AIDS, and unfortunately, yes, some sexual activities practiced by some homosexuals, if they are done without precautions, can and do spread HIV/AIDS. Sexual activities practiced by heterosexuals can and do spread HIV/AIDS as well. Following Peter’s logic, in some countries in Africa, clearly heterosexuality is unhealthy. Peter usually (tellingly?) ignores homosexuals who are, um, female. If I similarly disingenuously ignore half of the homosexual population, I can proclaim that homosexuals in the United States actually have significant fewer cases of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases than heterosexuals. Maybe I should send a nasty note to people who will be getting married in a heterosexual wedding in 9 days to remind them of the unhealthfulness of heterosexuality.

Anyway, it can go without saying that the SPLC designation for LaBarbera’s Americans for Truth About Homosexuality website is appropriate. You know, I’m just trying to live my life, do that pursuit of happiness thing — and I am succeeding in that nearly all the time. I personally can’t even imagine having the motivation to put up some website about the supposed sinfulness of other people.

I mean, it’s not merely LaBarbera’s hate that is offensive, it’s also his lack of humility. He never reflects on himself. He never himself “sins,” apparently. I’ve never seen him say anything remotely like contrition or an apology for causing harm. (“Dr. Laura”, contemptible as she was, got to that point, to her credit.) The problems in the world always lie outside of himself.
