Beautiful voice, beautiful song. Like Jennifer Knapp, RJ Helton was a contemporary christian recording artist until he came out as gay a couple years ago. I think he was actually dropped from his record label as a result.
Indeed, beautiful…
That boy can SING!
And the song itself is one no gay child should have to sing or beg of their parents. There is no parent that should choose church doctrine over their own flesh and blood.
And no church should be in the business persuading a parent to abandon their own because they are gay…EVER.
The Bible won’t give you a hug, call you on Mother or Father’s Day, won’t smile back, hold you when you’re old and frail…and no…the Bible doesn’t have your child’s eyes, or a voice like silk like this boy has.
The Bible wouldn’t appreciate your chocolate cake recipe or compliment you on your promotion.
Flesh and blood is flesh and blood…someone to lay claim to in ways that might be the difference between an old age that is comforted and one that is not.
The Bible doesn’t know your child, YOU do. The Bible won’t love you back, no matter how loyal you are to it, or are willing to put IT before your child.
And for those parents that feel they are being tested by their child for being gay. Perhaps they might ponder that it’s God testing how much they love that child.
How is it a show of the love of God, by NOT loving your gay child?
Gay kids can sing like angels too.
Well written Regan!
