(Amazing Grace: Muslim Is Blind And Now She Sees – Thanks to Jesus)
Apparently, so-called “ex-gays” are not enough to satisfy right wing extremists. According to the Christian Broadcasting Network, former Muslim rebels in the southern Philippines are “veering away from violence as they discover Jesus and experience his peace and miracles. Muslim Mariam Mendo is giving her testimony on how God healed her blindness.”
Of course, this must be true, because fundamentalist Christians are always peace loving and never violent.
Just as with the ex-gay ministries, fundies are promising miracles to Muslims. For example, Mariam Mendo, is allegedly giving her testimony on how God healed her blindness.
Mendo, a diabetic, testified she suddenly lost her sight after her blood pressure shot up. Her husband, Spider, who was a former commander of the Muslim rebel group Moro National Liberation Front, comforted Mendo and allegedly asked the pastors to pray for his wife.
“I was not afraid,” Spider said. “I know that everything is in the hands of God and that He will not allow my wife to go blind.”
According to CBN, one of the church elders, Primo Latada, says he was amazed at Spider’s faith.
“I did not expect Spider to have such a strong faith in God,” Latada said. “He said ‘Let us lay hands on my wife and pray for healing just like Jesus when He prayed for the sick in the Bible.’”
After two days, Mendo miraculously regained her sight! He also cured her diabetes!
“The doctor also told me that the diabetes is gone,” Mendo said. “Before, I did not believe in Isa, in Jesus, but now He is in my heart and I believe that He was the one who healed me.”
It was in 2008 when Medno husband, commander Spider, and other Mujahideen fighters heard the Gospel when Christian missionaries visited their training camp. And just recently, Spider underwent water baptism which signifies his total surrender to Jesus Christ.
This was tested when his goats and chickens were stolen.
“I wanted to run after the thieves,” Spider said. “I said nobody steals from me because the people are scared of me. But my pastor reminded me that I should forgive.”
Because of his newfound faith, Spider is persuading Muslim rebel groups to lay down their arms and surrender to the government.
This is truly an amazing story.
Jesus cured blindness and diabetes, converted angry Muslims, stopped Spider from whacking the guy who stole his chickens and caused violent insurgents to lay down their guns.
It seems the ex-Muslim ministries is working much better than the ex-gay ministries. Perhaps, they can share their secrets with the ever-struggling Randy Thomas and Alan Chambers – who can’t seem to “heal” their homosexuality.

Brad – people have the right to convert. But, clearly, this story is exploitation. And the “healing” in this case seems like fiction – much like the many “ex-gays” paraded on the 700 Club who have turned out not to be as “ex-gay” as advertised.

Well, only a few months ago I read of an ex-Christian guy who claimed that his homosexuality was “cured” by converting to Islam.
It takes all sorts.
Brad, if Jesus is making miracles how come there aren’t headlines around the world in scientific journals documenting things that break the laws of nature?

Walking away from superstition, including Abrahamic religion, is simply a matter of someone changing their mind, opening their eyes or getting an education. As for someone changing their sexual orientation, well, a resurrection is more likely.
It is a minor miracle that brad anderson actually used something other than lower case letters. I wonder if he did that only because he couldn’t bring himself to write “jesus” lower case.
For Jesus, he will endure the persecution of holding down “shift” while also typing another letter.

Why is there so much hatred and anger against any who disagree with the pro homosex position? The venom expressed on your blog and this site is so ironic. Is truth what you all are after?
Because it’s not your business to “agree” or “disagree” with it, because it’s not your life, it doesn’t affect you, and to think that you have the right to dictate how others live their lives based on your beliefs in disproven mythology is the height of undereducated arrogance.
But it’s not really “hatred” and “anger.” It’s just honesty, something that fundamentalists are not used to.

But you’re right, Craig, we’re totally being out of line for being upset that people are dehumanizing us, denying us basic human rights (quality of life, shelter, employment, basic health care — not the health care bill, actually being treated by a doctor), and think that self-abuse and suicide in the hands of ex-gay ministries = success stories. Because of, you know, fairy stories.

I am a citizen, a tax payer, a law abiding, contributing and productive member of the community. I last had a parking ticket five years ago, and a moving violation 11 years ago. i have never been arrested. i am well thought of by family, friends, colleagues and neighbors.
And for what reason? Becuase some read something in a book that was written 2000-3000 years ago about a subject that might be possibly, in a vague general sort of a way, about something that resembes homosexuality. For that, my spitritual ancestors have been imprisoned, murdered, vilified, tortured, and burned at the stake.

You are confusing being an angry person – which I am not – with rightful indignation towards injustice.
When I have the same rights as the majority my anger will subside. When my family is not at risk for hate crimes and discrimination my anger will disappear. It really is that simple.
It is mind boggling that you think I should be thrilled about my family being exposed to harm thanks to unequal treatment and bigotry.
If I weren’t angry, I’d either be unaware or obtuse. So, what steps are you taking to bring an to end the indignation and anger you seem to have such a problem with?

Craig seems to think gays should take efforts to demonize them and deprive them of equal rights as harmless and innocent differences of opinion. Craig, would it ever occur to you to ask black people why they have so much anger and hatred towards racists?
Actually, Priya, Craig didn’t specifically do that, but many of his mindset clearly do have a problem when black people point out inequities, or when black people do better than them. They cling to their white pride and insist that if a black person gets a job they wanted, it was affirmative action, when they may not have even been on the short list for said job. They use the word “uppity” behind closed doors, because for the white male wingnut, anything that brings people who are a different color, a different gender, or a different sexual orientation to the same level as the white male wingnut is viewed as not knowing your place. As their numbers continue to dwindle, their rhetoric will simply become more shrill, which is why you have people coming in here using idiot phrases like “pro homosex.” Everything about gays having equal rights is emasculating for them, because it threatens to show everybody that white male wingnuts really aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
