Oh boy, Rosie really takes Mike Huckabee to task and gently, ever so gently, exposes him as a moron. In this clip, Rosie is talking to him about his lack of support for gay parenting, and over and over, he says he doesn’t “judge” gay families, but that we are not the “ideal.” Rosie calls that out as the coded dogwhistle language it is.
It’s worth listening to all seven minutes.

Okay. Point for point, neither side changed anyone’s mind. They both walked away feeling as though they had represented their own views, shake hands, “we just disagree”. My problem with ‘our’ dependency on “Dude, Rosie just busted Mike down!” is, what IF her argument was weak? Would I then be weak because my faith is in her argument? My point is, I believe we should all be as outspoken as Mike and Rosie. I hate to date myself but I keep going back to “I am what I am”, that lovely song we hear at the close of every drag show (No, I don’t do drag!). “If you don’t like it then you can lump it!” Stand up and be counted! Ricky Martin said it well. Pride isn’t a circus. “Are you coming to “Pride?” See, and THAT is the problem. We can come and go to and away from pride. We let them humiliate us with the “fudge factory” comments when they should be humiliated for talking about someone else’s sex life. With pride, I tell them plainly, “It’s clean enough to eat off of so, get started!”
How did Mike come across as a “moron.” He seemed very composed, calm and articulate to me. Are you incapable of being unbiased?
Rosie on the other hand has proven over and over again that she is unstable and angry. I really have concern for her adopted children regardless of her sexual orientation.
And if Rosie thinks she is being subtle with her condescendng and rude comments then she is not as smart as she thinks she is.
Mike came across as a moron because everything he said was factually incorrect, misinformed, and as bigots do, he was running around in circles trying to simultaneously BE a bigot, while also plausibly denying that he’s a bigot.
Oh, and this is a biased website, Dee. We’re biased toward equal rights for human beings and against Religious Right whackjobs who lie about LGBT people in order to scare their illiterate masses.
If you don’t like the “bias,” leave.
This was a balanced discusion, where two people disagreed on what they considered as the “best” way to raise kids, but if you listened with out bias, what was heard is ” this is the way I think, and I don’t think your way is bad, but I do not agree.”
This is America, and I think we all should listen to others, but do as our hearts demand, and not be chastised for those heart-felt beliefs.
Freedom of speech means just that- I have the freedom to express my ideas, as do you. One should not advocate the repression of this freedom because one does not agree with the opposing viewpoint.
Unfortunately, there are those in government that believe their ideas are so much better, that they should be imposed from above to “help” the people do what is “right” ( as defined by these same people).
They have forgotten the “government by the people” portion of our constitution- a lot of thought went into preventing government from having the power to make decisions for “The People”..
Except that Mike Huckabee is fighting to take rights away from people like Rosie O’Donnell.
It’s not just a “nice disagreement.”
Nice disagreements are for children learning to share.
It shouldn’t be the “people’s” decision whether or not a minority of the population has equal rights.
And no one is trying to silence Mike Huckabee, by the way. Pointing out that he’s a moron and an uneducated loon isn’t “silencing” him. His ideas are dying the death they deserve, because they’re not based in fact, and they’re hateful. If his ideas can’t compete at the grown-up table, then they, rightly, get relegated to the fringes.
