This video is heartbreaking.

Have you ever noticed how they all sound the exact same? It’s not just in their catchphrases and slogans. They all use the same tones of voice, like they’re automated. And that, children, is what brainwashing looks like.
Sidenote: As your resident atheist, the message at the end made me grin.

It sickens me the way children are used as tools, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and possibly physically abused over an insane interpretation of a philosophy by their own PARENTS no less!!!
Lauren, Hugs to you! Stay strong, your siblings may need you one of these days.
They are truly sick and repulsive people.
Total child abuse! This is no different than kids being raised in the Hitlerjugend by fanatical nazi parents.
What is the “standard” for the sacred duty of parenting? Just so long as it’s a man and woman? Mike Huckabee says that gays treat the issue of “owning a child” like puppies. And he’d approve of this? Two semi-toothed rednecks can bump uglies, spawn and drag their Latchkey brats up anyway they choose and that’s fine but, two loving gay or lesbian partners would be “sin”?
I totally understand the viewpoint of those who have are without faith or against literalist zealots, like these, like most “Evangelicals”. However, please consider that not all religious people are like this. If the choice is between Jesus or gay rights, then we’re going to lose. However, the choice is NOT between Jesus and gay rights. There’s MCC, UCC, UUC, Methodist, and many liberal churches abound.
Jesus is our greatest advocate. He is the greatest liberal of all time. He is the author of civil rights. This spin-off sadness known as American Evangelical Fundamentmentalism is about religious cheery-picking. They take two lines out of a book while ignoring 3,000 words meant exactly for them. I simply worry that gays and lesbians are abandoning a faith which is their heritage because others are saying “He’s our God, not yours!” Spiritualism is a vital part to many people’s lives. Giving up or giving in isn’t in my character. Our sexuality isn’t a choice. Our faith or atheism is, and we shouldn’t ever be forced to make that choice by someone else’s standard.
The cross on my back is not to hate them all because of the loudest, meanest groups. Not to be a sucker for a punching bag either. Thank God we’re superhuman.
Have they ever explained why they don’t just move out of the country? If the US is such an awful place … why stay here? I mean, presumably it’s so they can try to convince the country to change. But it seems like they’re complicit in whatever our “sins” are, in the meantime — assuming they vote, pay taxes, benefit from the police and the fire department and other government-run services, etc. etc.
(Sorry if that question is asked and answered in the video, I can’t listen to the whole thing right now.)
I’ve heard Phelps’ rant on black people as being cursed so Africa is out. Australia created laws especially against them. Canada will arrest them onsite. Only in America are they tolerated. Ireland wants them gone! Maybe France because France is one of those “p**s everyone to p**s everyone off” kind of places. Otherwise, we’re stuck with them. Eventually, America must modify it’s freedom of speech Amendment, and I hope we do. We have the freedom to cross the streets but, at designated intersections.
It is particularly difficult for children raised in a cult to break away. Their families are part of the cult, and breaking away from the cult means breaking away from the family. In this particular case, the entire church is essentially one family. Even though this young woman sees through much of the Westboro mess, she wants to go back on some level to be with family.
On another note, the Supreme Court is going to address state laws that prohibit Westboro from picketing funerals. I suspect that the Supreme Court will side with Westboro on the 1st Amendment issues involved. However, states and local governments could easily end Westboro’s pickets of funeral by simply not sending police to protect Westboro. The problem will eventually solve itself.
Isn’t this child abuse? When will the United States wise up and round these pyschopaths up and put them far far away from members of productive society?
