The author as a complete lack of historical understanding on prohibition and the universal good that came out of it. It would be better for some to keep there mouth close unless they have at least a cursory knowledge of what happened.

While I agree with the general point you are making, there are some important historical points to remember when talking about the prohibitionists of 100-150 years ago.

The Prohibition movement was also tightly associated with the women's suffrage movement. No less than Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were activists in what was known during the 1800s as the Tolerance Movement. The end to liquor consumption was tightly tied to the health and rights issues of women in the 1800s and early 1900s as they were seen as causes for domestic violence.

And yes the Tolerance movement was rooted in Christian ideology, and for many of the Tolerance movement so was the abolition of slavery and the rights of women. At the time, prohibition was seen a progressive movement.

“We talked about children and safety and a healthy environment...." What bullshit! I bet that Mt. Notsopleasant is jam-packed with guns, huntin' rifles, pistols, hunting knives, fish hooks, animal traps and any other rural killing device you can think of.
Pass the Cabernet Sauvignon please.
