Here’s your Tuesday “Oh my god” video, of a “science teacher” (I use the term loosely) in Dayton, Tennessee, explaining how he gives a “fair shake” to both Creationism and evolution (AKA “science”) in his classroom, spliced in with classroom comments from his students. My favorite one is the guy at the end who says:
How can like an African-American person evolve from a white person? We’re different skin.
(h/t Pharyngula)
We’re different skeeeeeeeeeeinn. Wow. I can’t even begin to unpack the utter disregard for education shown by everyone in this video who isn’t the narrator, and I don’t have time, so I won’t try.
What does this have to do with gay rights or the Religious Right? Nothing except, oh, the obvious link between this sort of third world quality education and adults who vote to take away LGBT rights.

It is why we are going to hell in a handbasket. It makes me almost glad to be 60– by the time the handbasket express reaches hell, my guess is, I won’t be around.
LOL, Evan, that’s pretty bad. Love the accents. It reminds me of the intro to, ugh, the movie “Mean Girls”, where she talks about the homeschooled children.
“And on the third day, God created the Remmington Bolt Action Rifle; so that man could fight the dinosaurs, and the homosexshuaaals. AMEN!”
Nice find. I wonder what documentary that’s from and who did it…
Joe
Of course he assumes that white people came first. I would love to tell him and his stupid teacher that their mitochondrial DNA, which comes from the mother, can be traced back about 200,000 years to eastern Africa. Yes, Tennessee kids, we’re ALL African Americans if you go back far enough!
Dude Gary, Noah was white. C’mon.
I stand corrected. The teacher sounds like his hands are tied. I wrote the comment before i actually watched the video. My bad.
I pity the students. There is nothing wrong with believing in religion and the creationistic theory, but to absolutely deny evolution is amazing. One girl talked about how it wasn’t proven, like anything in the bible has been proven.I pity the students because when they get out into the real world and come up against new and exciting ideas, I don’t see how they’ll be able to process the information. And the comment about skin color is beneath contempt. I blame the parents on that one. A real pity.
America continues the slide into becoming a third-world nation. We are willfully becoming idiots. How can our young people compete in this world when they are getting this kind of crap education?
When someone points out the fact that they are willingly becoming idiots though, they react with an improperly spelled, poorly punctuated rant about how others should “Fuk off n mind yer own biznesss”.
Gary! You are absolutely RIGHT. Our ancestral DNA is rooted in Africa. We ARE all Africans and Africa literally is the cradle of mankind.
Our evolution and skin color has more to do with sun exposure and nutritional access.
But, just as some cultures decided that women are biologically and MORALLY inferior, it wasn’t a stretch to assume that about minorities of people who are different in other ways. We know historically that homosexuals, geniuses, the exceptionally tall, the left handed, albinos and redheads have been punished and confined to ensure the ignorance and illiteracy of the masses.
Most of all driven by religious doctrine and power.
If there are some segments of the population that wish to remain in a barbaric and primitive mindset, fine.
Just don’t dare try and force it on people who don’t choose to believe it, and a society that is better educated and marches towards progress that contradicts that doctrine.
We didn’t make it to this level of human progress and understanding BECAUSE of those doctrines (which change according to who wants to maintain their power), but IN SPITE of them.
MY family, would have been embarrassed by the ignorance THIS kid is displaying.
And that’s another thing that is perplexing, that some people ARE that stupid, and they don’t see anything wrong with being so.
Being curious, is a normal and natural trait in intelligent humans.
I think that religion being an opiate is true, looking at this.
It seems to work in numbing the mind to curiosity and seeking out information and experience.

Who would have thought?!
Aaaaaahhhhhhhh George W.Bushs’ “No Child Left Behind” seems to be working to its fullest. May I introduce the next generation of welfare recipients.
This is so sad to see children’s minds ruined in this way. ‘equal time’??? evolution happened, it’s a fact, as well as theory. to pretend otherwise is to do a serious injustice to truth.
I promise you, the hundreds of thousands of scientists and engineers in China and India, who will invent things, and innovate, and think, and take all your jobs away and take over your businesses – they are not taught such junk.
Being from Tennessee I can categorically state that, yes…some of our folks are just that dumb, including teachers. However, there are a lot of people here that are more enlightened; we are outnumbered not only by the ignorant but also the ones who do know better but have an agenda that requires fostering and expanding the ignorance. Those of us that are trying to battle the deluge of bad science, bad legislation, and simple stupidity will keep on fighting, just don’t forget us. We could use some help. Get out the vote. We might not be able to elect more enlightened men and women here yet, but we need to maintain a majority on the national level.
So sad. So sad that there is such ignorance in the world…..
We need to remember that it is not all in one state, or one given area of the country….sadly, this kind of ignorance is EVERYWHERE in the United States (and the world). And so long as people continue to “blindly follow”, it will remain with us.
Holy Jesus, Private Pyle!!!
