Argentina has just passed the United States in terms of equal rights for its citizens, becoming the first Latin American nation to have full marriage equality. They told their radical religious clerics (Catholic bishops) to take a hike, and they got it done for all their citizens.
“What an unelected, activist country!”, Maggie Gallagher might have just said as she pounded her paws on the table.
In order to express His displeasure with this decision, the Lord plans to fire an asteroid in the general direction of Argentina, but it will miss and land in the ocean somewhere, because His throwing arm just isn’t what it used to be.
Timothy Kincaid points out that Argentina is now the tenth nation in the world with full equality. None hit by asteroids, you see:
2001 Netherlands
2003 Belgium
2005 Spain
2005 Canada
2006 South Africa
2008 Norway
2009 Sweden
2010 Portugal
2010 Iceland
2010 Argentina
Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS, Argentina!
UPDATE: Joe’s post is more updated now, with links to news sources and whatnot, so go there. Also, if you’re on Twitter, you would probably enjoy watching Joe gloat in NOM/Maggie Gallagher’s Twitter-face.

Don’t Cry for Us Argentina, we know we’re backwards, but all through our wild days, our mad existence, we’ll keep our promise and maybe some day the US will catch up to you!!!
ps..my Italian grandparents came up to NYC, having been raised in Argentina. Sometimes I wish they had just stayed there. At this rate *Italy* will have gay marriage before we do, despite the power of the roman catholic crime syndicate.
Congratulations, Argentina! Its come a very long way, longer than we have which puts us to shame.
I predict Brazil will be next, in fact the entire continent may well soon be a marriage equality zone which will leave the U.S. sandwiched between full equality to the north and south of its borders. How embarrassing that will be.
Luxembourg has legislation pending. A bill has been approved but needs passage through parliament. It may well pass. Slovenia is another, but that one will probably fail. Finland of course already has legislated and passed it and will take effect in 2011. Get rid of Sarkozy in France and Merkel in Germany, we’d have two more. Even the UK now has several MPs declaring their support for full marriage equality to replace civil partnerships. The ball is rolling and meanwhile in America, we languish.
Gary, regarding Italy, stranger things have happened. If Latin America continues the trend, imagine if Cuba gets on board, holy hannah! That could well happen too!
Evan: Not paws. That’s disrespectful.
Hoofs.
I have hooves (cloven) and am highly insulted at being associated with Maggie Gallagher.

Hooves is indeed better.
VIVA ARGENTINA, a beautiful country tons of hot men!
