The National Tea Party Federation, an organization that represents the Tea Party political movement around the country, has booted right wing bloviator Mark Williams and his Tea Party Express because of a bigoted blog post he wrote.
Williams wrote the trash in response to a resolution by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) that called on Tea Party leaders to crack down on racist elements in the movement. (Talk about a full time job!)
“Dear Mr. Lincoln,” began the fictional letter to Abraham Lincoln posted by Williams. “We Coloreds have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!”
Williams went on to write that the Tea Party movement couldn’t be racist because it opposed government bailouts for Wall Street banks and big corporations.
“Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn’t that what we want all Coloreds to strive for?” the posting said. “What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us coloreds!”
Williams, a conservative talk radio host, said the post was intended as satire. He took it down as criticism mounted.
Um, yeah, this was a satire. A racist one. It seems that some Tea Baggers just can’t help themselves. Without race-baiting and without a black man in the Oval Office, would there even be a Tea Party? No, really.

Ugh.
what has race got to do with out of control spending, ignoring constituants, and just plain old ram unread bills down our throats?
Roni – it doesn’t. But is that what the tea Baggers are really about? Some of them are. But there is no denying that the group is fly paper for bigots of all varieties. if not a majority, certainly a sizable minority of these folks have issues with many forms of bigotry.
[...] carry racist signs at their rallies. But don’t you dare call the Teabaggers racists because they aren’t, they aren’t! DC’s same-sex marriage law survived a legal challenge. Harry Jackson is sad. A [...]
Despite its name – a disingenuous allusion to the citizens revolt of 1773 (Boston Tea Party) the whole 21st Century Tea Party “movement” (cult is definitely a more appropriate and descriptive term) is 100% based in a racist, anti-Black reaction to the legitimate election of a Black person to the Presidency of the United States. That the National Democratic Party was able to accomplish this inevitable, historically significant feat before the GOP could has only exacerbated the dangerously polarized political environment that we find ourselves in today due to our grave mistake, as a nation, to have cultivated an unworkable two party political system (tweedle dee/tweedle dum) to rule our country. To deny the fact that the Tea Party cult is totally racist at heart is at best a naive acknowledgment of ignorance and at worst a bold faced manipulative lie intended only to dupe ignorant and/or stupid people into supporting a political agenda they have no capacity to understand but which contravenes the spirit and letter of our long experiment in democracy.
“Freedom means, having to work for real”? Gee I guess slavery was just light housework.
Well, from personal experience I can assure you that not all tea partiers are racists and homophobes. I have a friend (alas….) and I vouch for her that she is not remotely prejudiced against non-whites, and she is fully supportive of gay rights. But she does “cotton” to a bunch of cockamamie ideas about what the healthcare bill means for her civil liberties, and she thinks taxes are too high (even though Obama gave her a tax cut…) and she somehow simultaneously thinks that the BP $20B escrow fund is government interference and yet accuses Obama of not doing enough to help the Gulf…maybe she’s a statistical outlier (I am in the Pacific NW, after all), and I don’t mean to suggest that there aren’t some racist bigots in the tea party (clearly!) but I think it is true that what unites them is an ideological certainty that government which governs best governs least. And, like the other tea partiers I have encountered, she is generally impervious to facts.
She’s just an idiot. ;-)
A news story just came out today, saying that sociologists have found that the ‘happiest countries on earth’ are the Scandanavian countries and the Netherlands. Notice all are super liberal and pot is legal in 1 of them. On the other hand, the Tea-baggers and conservatives in general are usually the biggest bunch of Miserables that you’ll ever meet.
I’m surprised they dont find another beverage to represent themselves, tea is after all so…..Chinese.
Full fat slightly sour white milk is more their symbol.
