Further to our story earlier today about a financial crisis at Exodus International headquarters …
The Minnesota Independent reports today that a key Exodus affiliate, Living Word Christian Church in Minnesota, has gone into foreclosure. It was bought at auction July 28 by a lender. Its leader, prosperity preacher Mac Hammond, was investigated by the IRS for alleged illegal borrowing from the church while the church’s finances faltered. The investigation was halted by a judge due to technicalities, according to the Independent.
This is the same Minnesota church and Exodus affiliate that hosted kill-the-gays youth activist Bradlee Dean last year and endorsed far-right Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann.
Under terms of the foreclosure, Hammond has one year to raise money to buy the church back from its lender.

Now, why would god remove his/hers/it’s financial blessing I wonder?
er…hers=her
Im’ guessing that it was Randy Thomas’ uber-gay video about unmanly deodorant and ordering double, orange, raspberry swirl skinny lattes at Starbucks that finally turned off the donors.
Given the economic circumstances, Thomas will have no choice but to return to Duncan Donuts and buy regular cups of Joe.
The days of the fufu frilly frappachino are long gone.
Huh? . . . What? . . . I thought God was on their side. Surely He is, but their supporters just didn’t
praynag Him enough. Not to rub salt in Exodus’ raw wound. But Truth Wins Out will be announcing a $50,000 grant this week. I guess God is rewarding us and fulfilling our mission to save people from Exodus’ quack therapy.
No, Alan Chambers, you CAN’T borrow any money.
“The days of the fufu frilly frappachino are long gone.”
I never learned how to speak Starbuck. I save a lot of money by never ordering anything I can’t pronounce.
You should secretly finance your adversaries then you can control them and also perpetuate you own existence. :)
God don’t like ugly!
Bob, wouldn’t that be great–you know, we don’t want these anti-gay forces to change or go out of business we want to give them money so sites like Truth Wins Out can stay in business. Spoken like a true troll.
Daniel, that’s about right.
If LGBT people were fully accepted in society and by the government, we would all go and pursue other things. It’s precisely because we are not that some of us are passionate about finishing the fight that we’re winning.
What’s funny, and what Bob probably doesn’t understand, is that with everything that happens that proves yet again that we’re winning, gay activists and journalists are giddy. It’s not about “staying in business.” It’s about doing something that’s worthwhile and finishing the job. Unfortunately, much of our society doesn’t value that — for them it’s much more about perpetuating one’s own personal self interest, rather than thinking about the lives of others.

Thanks Evan, both for your comment and the continuing good work you and Wayne and others do. It’s because of the good work you do that, hopefully, some day we won’t have to fight groups like Exodus and NOM.
Oh come on guy’s! First it was said completely tongue in cheek, that was obvious by the :) symbol. Second, you ignored the part about controlling their message, like having then publically admit you were right. Third, you could shut them down at will. Forth, it was on the tail of my Starbuck joke which should have clued you in and finally, it was a general stab at the ridiculous nature of the situation.
“What’s funny, and what Bob probably doesn’t understand..”
What’s funny is that you put me in your little box and closed the lid so tight that you can’t tell what I was being sarcastic or making a little joke. Apperently, you don’t know me well enough to understand my devious sense of humor. :)
“If LGBT people were fully accepted in society and by the government, we would all go and pursue other things.”
No, I fully understand that and was mulling that concept over in my mind just yesterday. What’s more, I long for that day and do you know why? Because then Christians and Gays will have some kind of peace. Perhaps that is just a naive hope.
Bob, the :) doesn’t make up for your history of posts.
Bob, saying that an offensive statement you made was “tongue in cheek”, a joke, and sarcastic doesn’t make it any less offensive.
“Bob, the :) doesn’t make up for your history of posts.”
I suppose asking a thought provoking question once in a while puts people on this site on the defensive. I suppose there is only one right view on any related question on LGBT issues and you folks define it.
I have stated I supported marriage equality and other legal right for LGBT people. So, what is your real problem with me?
Priya what was offensive about my comment?
Bob, maybe you believe you’re just asking thought provoking questions but in reality you’re just trolling. The people who run this website and most of the people who read it are familiar with religions in this country and how they operate. You’re not asking questions we haven’t heard before. Many (maybe even most) of us were raised in religions and we’ve dealt with what conversion therapies and religious bigotry is really about.
Bob, you suggested that organizations like this are primarily concerned with perpetuating their existence and are interested in hiding their actions – that’s offensive.
Daniel, I do believe that I was “just asking thought provoking questions” so I find it hard to see how I am a
troll. I would not be here if I were uninterested in the point of view here.
Maybe my questions or the points I brought up were wearing and painful to most of you and if so I am sorry for that. Discussing these things is new to me.
Since you have given me your perspective on how I am perceived I shall try harder to be more sensitive and respectful.
Priya, I assure you that was not my meaning at all but I admit on reflection that it could be interpreted that way so I apologize for lacking sensitivity.
I guess they technically are thought provoking questions if they provoke the thought “hey, I think that guy is a troll!”
If TWO were interested in perpetuating its existence, we would suppress public awareness of the financial problems at Exodus and Focus on the Family. Instead, we would do as those groups do: Scare the sh** out of people, convincing them that an ex-gay takeover of America is imminent.
Since Bob suffered a traumatic childhood, I’m inclined to be patient about his alternative universe: A universe exemplified by false perceptions such as this one:
“Because then Christians and Gays will have some kind of peace.”
Gay Christians and gay-affirming Christians already have peace. So do gay atheists, gay Buddhists, and so on. There is no divide between Christians and gays.
It’s the antigay Christians who have less and less peace, because their vile anti-faith defines them as predators upon society: sociopathic souls who seek opportunities to defame and destroy people who don’t conform to their own insecure absolutisms and fraudulent fundamentalism.
Bob, if your “thought provoking” comments are sincere than that’s one thing but if you’re just approaching this like high school debate team I just don’t have an interest in engaging in that. When you ask Merlyn in another thread “what’s wrong with heterosexual marriage” although the criticism was aimed at one aspect of heterosexual marriage you’re just arguing for arguments’ sake. Most of us who come on this site grew up in heterosexual households so it’s not like we don’t know what we’re talking about. Many of us were raised in religious households so we know what we’re talking about there too–you seem to think we’re talking from our asses about this. If you support gay marriage and other legal rights for GLBT people that’s swell–but with some of your comments you don’t sound like it. We have to put up with people putting us down all the time so you can’t expect us to just be all “oh that Bob’s a caution” when you say things. I actually don’t know where you’re coming from you seem to say whatever you have to in an attempt to cause trouble.
Sorry for highjacking this thread.
Bob did apologize for his lack of sensitivity in making
his #7 comment. That seems a step in the right direction.
Priya, that’s fine. I’m perfectly willing to accept his apology but I do want to know where he’s coming from. If he’s not gay then I can take a lot of what he says as just naivete, if he is then I can only think he needs to get out more. I don’t want to shut him up but a lot of what he posted just seemed to be arbitrary.
