It’d be absolutely hilarious if Bachmann became the GOP nominee and … around October 2012 a video came out of her husband having gay sex. I’m dreaming.
It is downright bizarre that the most anti-gay presidential candidate’s husband appears to be a big ole queen. Even more peculiar that this man makes money from helping gay people butch up.
Something does not compute and I’m not going to shy away from the obvious, nor sugarcoat this disconnect. Furthermore, there is scientific evidence that shows the most homophobic men are often closeted gay men. (see Henry Adams 1986 study from University of Georgia)
If Marcus is simply an effeminate straight dude, then he and Michele should be big advocated for ENDA, because it bans discrimination based on perceived sexual orientation.
I’m always leery of fundamentalist “Christian” family counselors because in addition to the unenlightened way they deal with gay youth and their families, they also tend to promote “male headship” models of the family, strict gender roles, and greater use of corporal punishment.
It’s interesting how Marcus tells people how to act, to have certain behaviors, in his therapeutic “model”, rather than not being interested in dealing with their feelings.
I’m assuming that he uses that as his mantra as well; “as long as I act heterosexual, I’ll be heterosexual”. Shades of teaching butch lesbians how to apply makeup, and teaching gay men to play touch football used in some the “reparative” therapies, perhaps?
Alonzo, his speech is evidence that he’s gay although admittedly its not a lot of evidence. He lisps and has inflection typical of women – as many gay men do.
Just to make it clear I firmly believe the therapy he offers is a scam and it can be harmful to others. However I don’t support making assumptions about somebody’s sexuality without any actual evidence to back it up.
Maybe it’s also worth noting that when folks here comment about how he seems totally gay, it’s not being stated as an insult – because there’s nothing wrong with being gay. There is something wrong with being gay and doing the work he does. But the idea that he’s gay is a fine idea. And a really funny one! (uh, I just worry that homophobes reading this will see these comments as insults.)
When I watch the video I see a hypocritical effeminate heterosexist man and nothing more. To implying, assume or to suggest Bachmann is gay based on a stereotype of gay men is in my opinion against one of the many things we as a community are suppose to be fighting against. Just sayin’.
Also I want to point out again very clearly – I find what Marcus Bachmann does for a living to be repugnant, harmful and Un-American. My only issue is how can anyone be okay with implying, assuming or suggest Bachmann is and/or could be gay completely based on a stereotype of gay men.
And by the way Alonzo, his being married to a woman isn’t proof that he’s heterosexual either. You can’t claim he’s heterosexual if you want your argument to be consistent.
Turd Blosson un-did Ann Richard’s re-election bid by asking Texas voters IF she MIGHT be a lesbian? Michelle Bachmann has to overcome VIDEO of her husband, Marcus, who comes off like “a butterfly in heat.”
Don’t get me wrong. I think Michele Bachmann is a moron, and what her husband does for a living is disgusting but I worked in gay rights organizations for years and have pretty good ‘gaydar’. From that video alone, he doesn’t look any more gay than most American men.
Besides, who cares if he is. She still won’t win the election. We’ll just have to hear her and idiots like Sarah Palin blathering on for another year. THAT’S what annoys me the most.
[...] even before Michele declared she’s running for president, notes Gawker. Truth Wins Out posted a video of the mister last year, adding its own snide: “No comment necessary.” So does Marcus [...]
WOW! I’m a gay republican, openly gay and in leadership. Hehehehe, Marcus Bachmann you make ME look good!!
Yeah, he definitely knows Dorothy….hahahahaaaa and probably sister Lindsay too. I’m glad I was out and honest about myself with the right-wing busy-bodies and didn’t turn into a Marcus, Larry, or a Lindsay.
Thanks for the vid…priceless. I’m still cracking up ;)

This is the Left’s version of freedom, equality, and my personal favorite… “TOLERANCE.” Notice how quickly its members abandon those stated convictions when it’s convenient to have a laugh or build themselves up, all at others’ expense.
I really don’t get the strawmen arguments being made here. LGBT activists have fought for the right to marry and other equal rights as citizens, against bullying people for who they are and against quack “science” to convince people they can change their natures. When did any LGBT group demand we stop rolling our eyes at those society would call “flaming?”
Comment by Edward Harper — July 8, 2011 @ 10:48 am
Alonzo said “@Priya Lynn why don’t you take your advice to me and do the same and stop claiming, suggesting or imply that he’s gay.”.
Because I don’t subscribe to your belief that one’s mannerisms and demeanor isn’t evidence of one’s sexual orientation.
Alonzo, teens are bullied because of the garbage this man spews. This creature, whatever he is, is an adult, not an immature, vulnerable adolescent. Comparing laughing at a grown fool to children bullying each other is ridiculous.
Comment by Edward Harper — July 8, 2011 @ 12:03 pm
Alonzo said “Priya your way of thinking is one of the many reasons teens are bullied everyday.”.
Nonsense. No one is bullied because someone thinks they are a particular sexual orientation, they are bullied because some people think its wrong, or shameful to be of a particular sexual orientation.
@Edward – Let it be known that I have expressed over and over that what Marcus Bachmann does for a living is repugnant and harmful and he should be called to task for it. However friend or foe I find no pleasure in making assumptions about someone perceived or real sexual orientation.
Alonzo: You’re missing what Priya’s saying…she’s saying that they’re not doing the bullying simply because they’re different, they’re being bullied because that difference is seen as (and has been taught to be seen as) wrong by those doing the bullying. If it wasn’t seen as “wrong” to be or look a certain way, it’s doubtful that the bullying would commence…
Alonzo said “Priya – Are you suggesting no one has ever been bullied simply because of their perceived sexual orientation?”.
Yes – read what Cody said and read what I said again. If one does not believe gayness to be a justification for abuse one never bullies. Its the belief that its wrong that causes the bullying, not the mere belief that someone is gay.
Cody I do understand that but that wasn’t my point. My point is there are people who are in fact bullied because of the perception of their difference regardless if that perception is true or not.
My apologies, I set up a needless straw-man argument. My original point is call Marcus out on his hypocrisy and the harm that his “therapy” causes people but to label him gay without evidence that isn’t based on a stereotype of gay men is stupid and childish.
The fact is because we don’t like the guy it’s suppose to be okay to make fun of him – I just don’t get that kind of mentality.
I didn’t make fun of him Alonzo. I remind you that at least one study has shown that people can pick out a gay man by the sound of his voice more often than would be expected by chance. Also, the stereotype exists for a reason – many gay men fit that stereotype. In fact I would say there is no such thing as an effeminate man who is 100% heterosexual.
How do you know he’s gay? He could be bi-sexual, he could be an effeminate heterosexual man there is no evidence whatsoever except that he possesses mannerisms of a stereotypical effeminate man.
I never said he was gay, I said there was some evidence that he is. There’s a difference between saying there is evidence of something and saying that something has been proven. I agree that its possible that he is not gay but that there is evidence to the contrary.
I think there’s a high probability that he’s bisexual but don’t confuse my belief in a possibility with me believing its a certainty.
And as I’ve pointed out to you repeatedly there is evidence he’s gay despite your repeated unsupported assertion that “there is no evidence whatsoever”.
Normally when I come across such a study I paste a link to it and the text in a Wordpad document. Unfortunately I did not do that in this case. I tried to do a search for it but my computer has a bug and the searchs keep taking me to an MSDN error site or some shopping site.
You’re free to take my word for it that it exists or believe I’m lying, whatever strikes your fancy, frankly I no longer give a damn what you think.
Cognitive psychologists from Ohio State University have completed a study that suggests people’s sexual orientation can be determined by the way in which they form vowels when they speak, reports Health Day. The study findings, which will be presented May 23 [2011] at the Acoustical Society of America meeting in Seattle, indicate that a majority of test subjects could identify which speakers were homosexual based on sound samples via telephone alone. . . .
I actual knew of the study when Priya first mentioned it –I just choose to ignore it as I believe it’s immaterial to Marcus Bachmann and it reinforces stereotypes.
Marcus appears sterotypically gay, even though he and his wife have built a career on homophobia. I’m sorry, but we are not going to burry our heads in the sand and not state what we and others plainly see because of your discomfort with the reality of the situation.
What we have observed is real. We are obligated to report it and offer our opinions on this matter. What you essentially want is for everyone to either lie our muzzle their thoughts. It ain’t gonna happen.
Wayne I have said over and over call him out on his hypocrisy, call him and his wife out on their heterosexism and the harm that Marcus Bachmann “therapy” causes people. What I don’t see is what is to gain by reinforcing stereotypes.
This all depends on how one defines “gay.” I remember watching some church sermons by Ted Haggard after his “situation” became public, and immediately thought “my god, who ever thought he ISN’T gay?” And of course stereotyping aside, it was because he displayed all the affectations we associate with “gayness,” most of which, like most stereotypes, happen to be common. So Mr. Bachmann acts pretty gay. Maybe he desires men, like Haggard. But if he doesn’t actually do it — if he perceives it not as sexual attraction but as temptation by the Devil to commit a grave sin, and he has to force that Devil away by not giving in and sometimes dipping his wick into Michele to prove to Jesus that he’s handling it — then he’s not “gay” the way most of us think of gay, that is, simply having a natural preference for the sexual company of one’s own sex. This is one of the areas where religion can make something go away by just changing its definition. You’ll never be able to press this case with Bachmann supporters, because they speak their own version of English where the same words don’t mean what you think they mean.
In response to my comment Richard Rush wrote: “You are – for crying “that’s not tolerant” when targeted people have the audacity to fight back against society’s bigoted bullies.”
Interesting…. I point out the prejudice and hypocrisy of your homosexual stereotyping and “homophobic” labeling of Mr. Bachmann and for that I’m accused of intolerance! Haha!
And as for “society’s bigoted bullies” I would point to all the shrill, obnoxious, militant LGBT stormtroopers in public and especially on college campuses around the country who are precisely that: bigoted bullies. Obviously, every faction in a society has its bullies, but it seems as if the Left is teeming with them.
So what do you call gay pride parades that look more like orgies than political assemblies? Most unfortunately, I’ve seen some of those pornographic displays firsthand, and wondered how a group of people could be so utterly self-centered and narcissistic as to think that other people in a free society should have to see that.
What do you call it when public schools prescribe books such as “Heather Has Two Mommies” and “Daddy’s Roommate” for elementary students? One would hope that a public taxpayer-funded institution would not engage in such political activity, but the facts are otherwise.
What do you call tenured, openly gay college professors in fields such as liberal arts, psychology, fine arts, etc. who use their positions to teach the acceptance of homosexuality and eliminate dissent within their classrooms, and even around campus? I have observed this firsthand as well, when I was a student myself. The usual methods are threefold: (1) manipulate the classroom discussion, often with the intent of goading religious students into “outing” themselves by raising objections to provocative statements; (2) marginalize any opposition, usually with a collection of well-prepared fallacies such as ad hominem attacks and strawmen; (3) using social stigma and the implicit threat of academic punishment to intimidate dissenters into silence and acquiescence.
So what do you call all that? I call it bullying, as I think any reasonable person would, but apparently many liberals call it “tolerance.” It’s a great example, I think, of how liberals “speak their own version of English where the same words don’t mean what you think they mean.” Thank you, Steve.
Mark, how on earth could any intelligent person see “Heather has two mommies” as political? It is not. It is a book showing kids that not all families are like theirs, and, for some kids, that other families ARE like theirs. That is just basic decency.
You sound like a now gone great uncle of mine who was in the Klan:
“What about MY rights to dominate everything? What are people being bigoted towards my opinions on race? Dont they know that they are being bigoted towards ME and MY right to live in a all white (put in “all officially heterosexual, no mention of gay people or their lives” in your case) world?”
Talk about the “the pot calling the kettle black”, This guy is as gay as the come. From his manner of speaking to the way he walks. Your not fooling anyone Marcus. Gay people can spot other gays from a mile away. What a HYPOCRIT!!
Well Gene, not only did you completely fail to grasp (or address in any substantive way) the obvious political, cultural, and moral implications of requiring young children in public schools (important word there, PUBLIC) to read about homosexuality, but you then proceed with the most outrageous ad hominem attack in which you actually and seriously compare me to a member of the Ku Klux Klan. And all of that simply because I turned the tables of the discussion to talk about bullying from activists on the Left.
Congratulations jackass, you just proved my point much better than I ever could have myself.
How did someone as seemingly STUPID as Michelle Bachmann get elected to congress? The fact that she is married to an obviously gay guy , and is persuing a program to “de gay ” homosexuals , is stupid , dangerous , and typical of everything that republicans stand for. Republicans want to deny that homosexuality is a valid lifestyle , want to deny that taxes help fund the government , want to deny that global warming , or climate change is a real and growing threat, want to deny almost everyhing that we take for granted. they do this partially out of total selfishness , and to talk down to their moronic constituants , and partially because thay just can’t agree with anything that a black president agrees with, just to screw up his presidency , and they will do anything and everything to achieve this goal.
My gaydar doesn’t go off that badly when Barney Frank speaks and he has long admitted he is a homosexual.
I suppose that Barney would be able to tell you.

If he has been with a man I am sure it will not take long to tease that individual out from his closet if this anti-gay duo keeps climbing the political latter and I’m willing to bet the tabloids are looking to crack this case wide open.
I had heard stories about Marcus Bachmann’s gayness, but figured it was political slander, and paid no attention, especially as I can’t stand Ms. Teabag Bachmann. My curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to view him on YouTube; OMG, he could be the twin of the big bear on Modern Family!
I’m from a huge extended family which included two gay cousins to whom I was very close. The eldest was quite the queen, and babysat me beginning when I was two and he 20. He and his posse of gay caballeros spoiled me, gave me style advise, did my hair, taught me how to use makeup, etc. As a result, I have gaydar. Marcus, girlfriend, Narnia isn’t reality.
Comment by PhilipJ — July 3, 2011 @ 12:36 pm
Personally I don’t see how anyone can accuse Marcus of being a closeted homosexual without any soild edvidence to back-up such a claim.
Comment by Alonzo — July 3, 2011 @ 12:55 pm
Alonzo, I guess you don’t get on the internet much. People accuse people of all kinds of things with no evidence.
Comment by Daniel — July 3, 2011 @ 4:54 pm
Just because people accuse others of something they have ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF OF doesn’t make it right.
Comment by Alonzo — July 3, 2011 @ 6:08 pm
Alonzo, his speech is evidence that he’s gay although admittedly its not a lot of evidence. He lisps and has inflection typical of women – as many gay men do.
Comment by Priya Lynn — July 3, 2011 @ 6:55 pm
That’s not evidence, that’s a stereotype.
Comment by Alonzo — July 3, 2011 @ 7:15 pm
Just to make it clear I firmly believe the therapy he offers is a scam and it can be harmful to others. However I don’t support making assumptions about somebody’s sexuality without any actual evidence to back it up.
Comment by Alonzo — July 3, 2011 @ 7:26 pm
You’re wrong Alonzo, it is evidence, there is at least one study that shows people can identify gay men by hearing them talk.
Comment by Priya Lynn — July 3, 2011 @ 10:55 pm
He is so light in his “ex-gay” loafers, they gotta tie him to stakes in the ground like a hot-air balloon – lest he flutter skyward.
Comment by Paul V. — July 3, 2011 @ 11:20 pm
Alonzo:
We never said he WAS gay. We just said he acts stereotypically gay. The evidence is our eyes and ears.
It is odd as hell that the most anti-gay candidate is married to a man who APPEARS gay. It is incongruent, peculiar, and ironic.
Comment by Wayne Besen — July 4, 2011 @ 12:12 am
Maybe it’s also worth noting that when folks here comment about how he seems totally gay, it’s not being stated as an insult – because there’s nothing wrong with being gay. There is something wrong with being gay and doing the work he does. But the idea that he’s gay is a fine idea. And a really funny one! (uh, I just worry that homophobes reading this will see these comments as insults.)
Comment by ryban — July 4, 2011 @ 12:38 am
When I watch the video I see a hypocritical effeminate heterosexist man and nothing more. To implying, assume or to suggest Bachmann is gay based on a stereotype of gay men is in my opinion against one of the many things we as a community are suppose to be fighting against. Just sayin’.

Comment by Alonzo — July 4, 2011 @ 2:46 am
Also I want to point out again very clearly – I find what Marcus Bachmann does for a living to be repugnant, harmful and Un-American. My only issue is how can anyone be okay with implying, assuming or suggest Bachmann is and/or could be gay completely based on a stereotype of gay men.
Comment by Alonzo — July 4, 2011 @ 3:01 am
Alonzo said “How am I wrong? By your logic I can assume you’re a heterosexual male soley based on the sound of your voice and mannerisms.”.

There’s a reason why this stereotype of gay men exists Alonzo – its accurate in many instances.

Comment by James — July 4, 2011 @ 5:43 pm

Wow, this is mean-spirited.

My Gaydar is strong.
He’s gay.
Since he lives his life to fight against gay people that just confirms what my Gaydar has already told me.
It’s not that he’s gay. It’s that he fights against his own gayness. He hates himself.
It’s really sad.
It’s the same thing when a woman, African American or any minority becomes a republican.
How could you join a party that supports everything that is against your own self.
Women. Republicans stopped a bill that would have made it illegal to pay a woman less than a man for the same job.
What woman would ever be a republican.
We already know how they fell about Blacks, Latinos and gays.

Comment by Richard Rush — July 8, 2011 @ 9:47 am

Priya your way of thinking is one of the many reasons teens are bullied everyday.
Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 11:39 am
Comment by Priya Lynn — July 8, 2011 @ 12:17 pm
Priya – Are you suggesting no one has ever been bullied simply because of their perceived sexual orientation?
Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 12:39 pm
@Edward – Let it be known that I have expressed over and over that what Marcus Bachmann does for a living is repugnant and harmful and he should be called to task for it. However friend or foe I find no pleasure in making assumptions about someone perceived or real sexual orientation.
Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 12:46 pm
Alonzo: You’re missing what Priya’s saying…she’s saying that they’re not doing the bullying simply because they’re different, they’re being bullied because that difference is seen as (and has been taught to be seen as) wrong by those doing the bullying. If it wasn’t seen as “wrong” to be or look a certain way, it’s doubtful that the bullying would commence…
Comment by Cody — July 8, 2011 @ 12:47 pm
Alonzo said “Priya – Are you suggesting no one has ever been bullied simply because of their perceived sexual orientation?”.
Yes – read what Cody said and read what I said again. If one does not believe gayness to be a justification for abuse one never bullies. Its the belief that its wrong that causes the bullying, not the mere belief that someone is gay.
Comment by Priya Lynn — July 8, 2011 @ 1:01 pm
Cody I do understand that but that wasn’t my point. My point is there are people who are in fact bullied because of the perception of their difference regardless if that perception is true or not.
Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 1:05 pm
My apologies, I set up a needless straw-man argument. My original point is call Marcus out on his hypocrisy and the harm that his “therapy” causes people but to label him gay without evidence that isn’t based on a stereotype of gay men is stupid and childish.
The fact is because we don’t like the guy it’s suppose to be okay to make fun of him – I just don’t get that kind of mentality.
Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 1:15 pm
I didn’t make fun of him Alonzo. I remind you that at least one study has shown that people can pick out a gay man by the sound of his voice more often than would be expected by chance. Also, the stereotype exists for a reason – many gay men fit that stereotype. In fact I would say there is no such thing as an effeminate man who is 100% heterosexual.
Comment by Priya Lynn — July 8, 2011 @ 1:21 pm
@Priya I never accused you of making fun of him.
“In fact I would say there is no such thing as an effeminate man who is 100% heterosexual.”
How can you make such a blanket statement without any evidence aside from one study to back up such a claim?
Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 1:32 pm

Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 3:11 pm
I never said you did although it would be nice and considered courteous if you’d make sense.
What I said is that there is some evidence that he is gay although admittedly not a lot of it. That’s a fact.
Comment by Priya Lynn — July 8, 2011 @ 3:16 pm
How do you know he’s gay? He could be bi-sexual, he could be an effeminate heterosexual man there is no evidence whatsoever except that he possesses mannerisms of a stereotypical effeminate man.
Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 3:22 pm
I never said he was gay, I said there was some evidence that he is. There’s a difference between saying there is evidence of something and saying that something has been proven. I agree that its possible that he is not gay but that there is evidence to the contrary.
I think there’s a high probability that he’s bisexual but don’t confuse my belief in a possibility with me believing its a certainty.
Comment by Priya Lynn — July 8, 2011 @ 3:25 pm
And as I’ve pointed out to you repeatedly there is evidence he’s gay despite your repeated unsupported assertion that “there is no evidence whatsoever”.
Comment by Priya Lynn — July 8, 2011 @ 3:27 pm
The only edvidence you offered was the mention of a study (which you supplied no link to) as a means to back up your baseless claim.
Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 3:33 pm
Normally when I come across such a study I paste a link to it and the text in a Wordpad document. Unfortunately I did not do that in this case. I tried to do a search for it but my computer has a bug and the searchs keep taking me to an MSDN error site or some shopping site.
You’re free to take my word for it that it exists or believe I’m lying, whatever strikes your fancy, frankly I no longer give a damn what you think.

Comment by Priya Lynn — July 8, 2011 @ 4:39 pm
I actual knew of the study when Priya first mentioned it –I just choose to ignore it as I believe it’s immaterial to Marcus Bachmann and it reinforces stereotypes.
Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 5:07 pm
Alonzo:
Marcus appears sterotypically gay, even though he and his wife have built a career on homophobia. I’m sorry, but we are not going to burry our heads in the sand and not state what we and others plainly see because of your discomfort with the reality of the situation.
What we have observed is real. We are obligated to report it and offer our opinions on this matter. What you essentially want is for everyone to either lie our muzzle their thoughts. It ain’t gonna happen.
Comment by Wayne Besen — July 8, 2011 @ 5:28 pm
Wayne I have said over and over call him out on his hypocrisy, call him and his wife out on their heterosexism and the harm that Marcus Bachmann “therapy” causes people. What I don’t see is what is to gain by reinforcing stereotypes.
Comment by Alonzo — July 8, 2011 @ 5:42 pm
Comment by Steve — July 8, 2011 @ 9:08 pm
So again, I stand by my original question:
Who’s the intolerant one now?
Comment by Mark — July 9, 2011 @ 6:52 am
Mark, how on earth could any intelligent person see “Heather has two mommies” as political? It is not. It is a book showing kids that not all families are like theirs, and, for some kids, that other families ARE like theirs. That is just basic decency.
You sound like a now gone great uncle of mine who was in the Klan:
“What about MY rights to dominate everything? What are people being bigoted towards my opinions on race? Dont they know that they are being bigoted towards ME and MY right to live in a all white (put in “all officially heterosexual, no mention of gay people or their lives” in your case) world?”
Who is the intolerant one now
You are Mark. Period.
You.

I’m from a huge extended family which included two gay cousins to whom I was very close. The eldest was quite the queen, and babysat me beginning when I was two and he 20.
