Delaware’s Republican nominee for the Senate is turning out to be treasure trove of anti-gay nonsense and idiocy. TS at Instaputz has helpfully compiled a bunch of Christine O’Donnell’s anti-gay quotes over the years, so that we can see how little she’s evolved over time. For instance, here’s what she had to say about the gay pride parade in New York City in 2000:
O’DONNELL: But let me tell you something! They – homosexuals’ special rights groups can get away with so much more than nobody else can!
COLMES: Well, what are they getting away with here, Christine? Tell me what you’re seeing…
O’DONNELL: They’re getting away with nudity!
FAY: Oh, right.
O’DONNELL: They’re getting away with nudity! They’re getting away with lasciviousness! They’re getting away with perversion!
O’DONNELL: They’re getting away with blasphemy!
OMG! They’re getting away with blasphemy! Which is completely legal in the United States, which has a secular government and Constitution! OMG!
On the Ryan White Care Act in 1995, in her work for Concerned Women for America:
The Ryan White Care Act provides money for community-based counseling centers. While that may sound noble and compassionate, we know from experience that “AIDS education” becomes a platform for the homosexual community to recruit adolescents and lure teens into a self-destructive sexual lifestyle.
Helping AIDS patients might “sound noble and compassionate,” but really, when you look at it from Jesus’s perspective, screw them!
I’m sort of glad the Republicans are nominating all these Christian tea-hadists, actually. Often the most extreme statements of the extremist Christian right go unnoticed by much of the population, but now? Haha, they’re national candidates! We get to show everybody what headcases they really are.
Fun.
TS has more crazy quotes at the link above.

Oh, come on. You know that most of the media will not report most of this. Corporate media don’t want voters to see what idiots they will be voting for.
“They’re getting away with nudity! They’re getting away with lasciviousness! They’re getting away with perversion!”
I take it she’s never seen a Mardi Gras celebration or a “Girls/Guys Gone Wild” tape?
“They’re getting away with blasphemy!”
OMG some gay people aren’t paying the proper respect to her imaginary friend!1!1 You know, the one she uses as a weapon against them and anybody else she chooses to hate. Stop the presses and issue arrest warrants!
Give me a break. Christians blaspheme against the “gods” of other religions every day. Likewise people who follow other gods do the same against the Christian “god”. “Blasphemy” is a victimless crime that everybody engages in to some extent. It’s not solely the purview of GLBT people.
“But let me tell you something! They – homosexuals’ special rights groups can get away with so much more than nobody else can!”
Really? Have they taken away your right to marry, join the military, have equal access to jobs and housing, or adopt children? Is there anything you can’t do that gay people can? Do tell, you vapid twit.
How in the world do people throw out of office a seasoned, respected and intelligent professional lawmaker and attempt to put in his place an empty shell who speaks only in cliché’s? Mike Castle was a Governor, Congressman,
lawyer and former law clerk. O’Donnell probably doesn’t even know what a resume’ is.
BTW, check out O’Donnell’s rather colorful college career. She officially got her degree just weeks ago.
She seems to be kind of an anti-sex fanatic. That anti-masturbation campaign was completely strange.
I don’t understand at all why a campaign against masturbation is needed. Not at all. It’s perfectly normal and fine from a mental and physical health standpoint. There are no partners involved, and generally i think people prefer to do it in the comfort of their own (private) living space, so no going to seedy places to get laid, and no spreading (or getting) disease. It doesn’t encourage prostitution or anything.
Seriously, what the hell is the justification for it, other than certain religious sects oppose it??
Emily, many Christians believe that it involves lust and lust is a sin. Also, it is seen as a selfish indulgence.
Like chocolate cake? That’s pretty indulgent. Why aren’t there campaigns against rich, creamy chocolate cake?
Emily,
Your problem is that you suffer from rationality, common sense and a humane understanding of sexuality. This is why you’ll hurt yourself trying to understand their “reasoning”. Accept that they are utterly nuts and move forward.
You are right in that there is always an emphasis on sexuality and not on other things that could lead to trouble like a bad diet leading to Diabetes or other health problems. Perhaps they thought that masturbation leads to increased teen sexual activity instead of being an outlet for it. Or they may have been thinking of “purity” for its own sake.
In that worldview, they’re trained to view their own bodies with a certain sense of shame. So, touching themselves and [gasp!] deriving pleasure from it is tied to guilt. It’s part of how the system is set up, and it leads to women like Christine O’Donnell running around shilling for the system that has subjugated her soul.
That wouldn’t surprise me too much, if they thought that. Some people seem to think that, for instance, prophylactics increase STDs and pregnancies and abortions, after all.
Frankly, I kind of think it’s just a way to make people feel guilty all the time, because a pretty good majority of teenagers and adults have an active sex drive, and so if you lead them to believe that it’s dirty and sinful and they’re bad people for it, they’re pretty much going to feel the need to repent for it pretty regularly.
Whoops, Evan beat me to it. Quick on the draw, that one.
O’DONNELL: But let me tell you something! They – homosexuals’ special rights groups can get away with so much more than nobody else can! — I seen that she ain’t no inglish majorette neither.
