This makes my blood boil.
Minnesota “ex-gay” activist Janet Boynes is starting a “Young Adult Prayer Call” on October 14th — to shame LGBT youth and sell them the lie that they can pray away the gay.
“Please spread the word as we begin a new ministry to this generation,” writes “ex-lesbian” Boynes.
How many gay teenagers will have to be bullied, harassed, or commit suicide before these creepy predators keep their filthy, bloodstained hands off these youth? The ink on the newspaper death notices has barely dried and the ex-gay industry is ramping up its deadly propaganda.
Enough is enough. Am I the only one who is sickened by the efforts of Boynes and others of her ilk? The timing of this call shows a lack of class and is, quite frankly, grotesque.
This is not Boynes first effort in trying to brainwash youth. She is also a part of the so-called “Ex-Gay” Educators Caucus that tries to cajole schools into carrying scientifically bankrupt materials or hosting unstable “ex-gay” activists.
If you are a gay youth who has been bullied or simply a concerned citizen, please call into her brainwashing session and let Boynes know that her despicable “ex-gay” program is precisely what leads to bullying and suicides.
Of course you’re not the only one, it is truly sickening and enraging.
I haven’t told this story fully in a long time and am only going to touch on it now. I had the misfortune to become a devout Evangelical as a preteen. Couldn’t have been worse timing.
After two years of desperately trying to pray away the gay, sure I was fated for hell, I decided God must be calling on me to do something about it myself. So I spent the summer pouring household acids into my eyes and staring at the sun.
I’m 51 years old, still alone, and have holes in my retinas to boot. We must do better.
Everyone needs prayer! Not for this kind of “deliverance” but rather from hypocricy and the notion that God has made mistakes in those that are born as GLBT. The defect is with those who cannot be set free by true love so that they can love ALL of humanity even the variation from self….YES, we DO need prayer….as well as positive affirmative action to support those who are being bashed….particularly by maninstream “religion” of all sorts. God forbid!
Modern American evangelical Christianity is a bizarre mixture of religion and fascism and is getting crazier by the day: its obsession with homosexuality, its insistence that America is a Christian nation, its immersion in right wing politics, its co-opting of the Republican party, and its outspoken hatred for immigrants–none of this, nor their words and behaviours, bears any similarity to the biblical accounts of what Jesus was interested in, talked about, or did. Bush used to talk about al qaeda “hijacking” Islam. Well, the nut-case extremist evangelical movement in the US is hijacking Christianity for its crazy agenda.

My heart goes out to you Alan, I’m sorry to hear about the tragedy that you’ve undergone. I care for you and will never forget your story.
But of course. LGBT youth are suffering and on the edge. So what do they need? They need some bigoted whackjobs to come in and reinforce the message that they’re bad, sinful, depraved and simply unacceptable unless they “change”.
That will fix everything.
Where is Exodus International in all this? Boynes works very closely with Exodus and is a regular speaker at their conferences.
