This is hilarious, in terms of the extreme desperation the Religious Right is starting to show toward all things gay. It’s a robo-call from Gary Glenn, president of Michigan’s American Family Association, for a statehouse candidate named Kevin Cotter. Cotter’s opponent, Toni Sessoms, is openly gay, but in case voters didn’t know that, Gary Glenn would like to say the word “homosexual” over and over and over again, hysterically, like the WATB he is.

Happy to be a source of hilarity, “extreme desperation” and all.
And yep, Toni did a fantastic job responding to it. Why, she got 36 percent of the vote. And since she and the left-wing punditsphere laughably insisted the robocall had “backfired” and helped her campaign, imagine how much smaller her percentage would’ve been without it.
That alternate universe aside, there is, of course, a more reality-based analysis: when voters in a district that voted nearly 60 percent for the Marriage Protection Amendment learned that Sessoms is herself a homosexual activist who would have supported overturning that amendment, voters proved that they agreed — as the robocall stated — that she didn’t represent their values.
ah…poor Gary.
It must be so hard, watching the worldview you hold so dear seen as more and more, now a majority nationwide (According to Gallup, not me) people seeing you as the bigot you are, your religious views rejected by the majority of the young, and what you stand for fading away.
I wish you a long a healthy life. You will either grow up, as many bigots have, or, just have to sit in ever smaller islands of hillbillies, chewing on your own hatred.
But….you already know this.

Thank you for your help Gary. Progress is never smooth and even, but, I have been using your work as an example when explaining ethics, dignity and tolerance to young people for years. Your tone and attitude have been, well, priceless.
While not quite the “rev” Phelps, you are TRULY valuble. Hurtful, spiteful and unmanly, but useful to our side.

For these American Family blah blah organization types, “values” always comes down to sex xex sex, and little else. Eventually, the intelligent among us will see through their obsession with controlling sex and their efforts to impose outmoded fairy tales upon society.
Very soon the silly marriage amendments will fade away when the courts remember that majorities cannot vote to oppress minorities, and that governments are here to protect the weak from the strong, and protect lives and property…NOT to enforce anyone’s religious dogma. Let’s hope the bigots will open books and get secular educations so they will be prepared for life in the modern era.
