David Pakman, host of Midweek Politics, watched Clint McCance’s interview on Anderson Cooper 360 last night, and he didn’t think too much of McCance’s apology. Indeed, here’s David, responding to the apology point by point. He raises some important issues here, I think!

I fully agree that this man has not had a change of heart. He in no way indicates that he now embraces gays or lesbians.
I believe he’s made a step–a small step–in the direction toward perhaps being a more accepting person. And isn’t that all we can hope for? He’s not going to go from one extreme to another–you said so yourself.
Only time will tell…
Sorry, but I am not buying what this man is selling. His *apology* is a fake and a fraud and he is only sorry that his remarks got him into trouble, not that he made the remarks in the first place. And it was perfectly obvious last night on AC360 that he did not mean a word he was saying and that his hatred of LGBT persons will, in the future, if anything, increase. The proverbial *woman scorned* is nothing compared to the bigot exposed.
Pakman is great here, as always. I’m glad he questions Anderson Cooper’s lack of follow up questions too. If there’s one thing David Pakman knows it’s interviewing wingnuts. His interviews with the anti-gay religious crazies are amazing.
OMG! I love David Pakman!
Clint is a moron, lacking any sincerity whatsoever, and a complete homophobe, unlikely to change!
Why do I think we haven’t heard the last of him??
I think Anderson Cooper did his job and David Pakman did his job and, happily, Clint McCance won’t be doing his job. Cooper let McCance hang himself, Pakman dissected the situation perfectly and we can go back to not caring about McCance until such time as he chooses to run for office again.
The sad fact is that it’s likely McCance does speak for his constituents. He and they are not going to change, but they will die off and, meanwhile, their children have just witnessed something very powerful that this tiny town will be discussing for generations. He’s been beaten down and beaten back. That’s all we’re going to get this time out but that ain’t bad.
This man kept me up last light. And you’re right, he has no idea why what he said is wrong. No one in there right mind believes he is one bit sorry. He’s only upset because people have made such a big deal about it. Such a big deal? Like, normally in is his Neanderthal world dead kids are always funny.
What a pitiful, disgusting excuse for a man, and I’m glad the whole world knows it now.
In the future, to use McCance’s own phrasing, I hope his kids tell him to go screw himself like the rest of us are telling him now. Oh, I wish Anderson had told him as much.
Check out his facial expressions!!!!!!!!!!
I thought the same thing when I saw the interview. Like you said, he was sorry that he got called out. He’s not remorseful at all. He really thought people were going to agree with him and when they didn’t he was sorry. He still believes everything he wrote and said.
I, too, think that McCance is sorry only that he got caught.Otherwise, he would simply continue in his hate speech against GLBT people. Glad to see Pakman calling him out on it!
