It’s too bad Isabella Miller-Jenkins’ other mother, Lisa Miller, is apparently a kidnapper. The Vermont Supreme Court has weighed in on the court order which gave Janet Jenkins sole custody of her daughter:
The Vermont supreme court has unanimously granted custody to a lesbian who has been battling to become the guardian of the young girl she and her former partner raised together.
The ruling is in favor of Vermont resident Janet Jenkins, affirming a 2009 court order giving her sole physical and legal custody of Isabella Miller-Jenkins. Lisa Miller, Jenkins’ former partner, is still missing with their 8-year-old daughter, according to Gay and Lesbian Advocates & Defenders, which argued on Jenkins’ behalf before the supreme court.
This story is just so sad, and shows the childish lengths fundamentalist Christians will go to to defend their fantasy-based worldview.

Someone needs to ask her lawyers how they can effectively defend her when they supposedly have had no contact with her for a year.
I don’t understand why the courts are even hearing her arguements since she refused to comply with the court’s orders.
I don’t get why no one is listening to the child. Why does everything have to be a christian vs Gay battle? im so sick of people posting stuff when they have no idea what they are talking about. did anyone bother to research why miller would not allow Jenkins visitations in the first place? ya look it up!
Ash everything has to be a christian vs gay battle because christians insist on it being so. Gays don’t oppose christians, its solely christians opposing gays as is demonstrated once again by this case – Jenkins didn’t oppose Miller having access, it was Miller who opposed Jenkins having access.
In this, as in all custody cases, the best interests of the child take precedence. The best interests of the child are not served by allowing a criminal to deprive a law abiding mother of her child.
Ash, Miller has made claims about Jenkins that have been shown to be scurrilous, I mean b******t, by the courts.
Prya:I’m a christian and i don’t have anything against gays. I have multiple gay friends and i think they are awesome. I still think God wants marriage to be between a man and a women but people are gonna do what they want and i have no right to judge them. as long as they know my beliefs we agree to disagree and move on as friends. And everyone keeps saying that a criminal should not have custody of the child. But she was only declared a criminal after the judge had decided to take her child from her. So really that argument means nothing. Because im saying they should have never tried to take the child away from her in the first place.
There is no way to prove that what Jenkins said wasn’t true and im not saying that it was. BUT the little girl had seen multiple psychiatrists and they all made a statement to the court that the visits with Jenkins was traumatizing to her whether Jenkins did anything to cause that or not and advised the court to have supervised visitation but the judge ignored it.
The thing that bothers me is that if this were any other custody battle Miller would be seen as just a mother protecting her child. but since they have different religious views then its a christian vs gays battle and nothing else matters.
And as a mother i know it would take something big to have me run from my country and try to hide my child. Something more then just different beliefs. I wish the courts had listened to what the little girl had to say not just the mothers. They are both capable of lying to get their way.
Ash,
This is just another child custody case.
You are the one making this about Christians and gays. The judge in this case is acting just as he would in any other child custody case. That goes for the Supreme Courts of Vermont and Virginia as well.
Miller is acting like many other parents in contentious child custody cases who deny the other parent visitation in violation of court orders, try to move to another juristiction to find a court more sympathetic to them, refuse to show up in court and flee the country with the child.
In fact, the practice of going to another juristiction (in this case Virginia to find a homophobic judge to side with her) has been declared illegal by the US Supreme Court many years before this child was born and before anyone was arguing about gay marriage or civil unions, because the courts recognized how this practice undermined the courts and the rule of law.
There are international treaties regulating how countries return children to the original country dealing with child custody cases when one parent kidnaps the child and crosses national borders. These treaties came about because so many parents were taking kids to other countries in child custody cases. They have nothing to do with gay marriage or civil unions.
You are arguing for “special rights” for Miller in this case, because her custody fight is with another woman. At least be honest enough to admit that you are demanding that the courts suspend all of their usual practices in this case, because it involves two women. Pretending otherwise flies directly in the face of that facts of this case.
Ash said “I’m a christian and i don’t have anything against gays. I have multiple gay friends and i think they are awesome. I still think God wants marriage to be between a man and a women.”.
Congratulations, you proved yourself a liar and a hypocrite in 3 sentences. Go f**k yourself Ash.
Ash said “the little girl had seen multiple psychiatrists and they all made a statement to the court that the visits with Jenkins was traumatizing to her whether Jenkins did anything to cause that or not and advised the court to have supervised visitation but the judge ignored it.”.
You lying evil b***h. Go f**k yourself again.
YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING….
AN ABOMINATION … GOD WILL PUNISH YOU FOR THIS ABUSE
YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING….AN ABOMINATION
GOD WILL JUDGE & PUNISH YOU FOR THIS CHILD ABUSE
esther: so nice she said it twice!
There is no proof for the existence of a magical sky man named god, so any references to it are silly, and belong in the Bronze Age, not the modern era.
esther–YOU CAN TELL SOMEONE’S A KOOK IF THEY POST ALL IN CAPS.
Esther, when I see your god I’m going to put him over my knee and give him the spanking he so richly deserves.
Esther, try to be original at the very least! The word ‘abomination’ may mean something disgusting or loathsome now, but in biblical days it merely meant ‘taboo’ like whether you kept kosher or not. It’s a pretty meaningless word, but you fundies sure do like the sounds of it. I personally find religious trolls to be an abomination, so there you are!

I understand why Lisa Miller would flee with her daughter.
God made the world and he appointed natural parents and designed marriage. It is the duty of those parents to protect and raise their children.
Civil government does not have the authority to contradict God’s design.
We can pass laws creating “civil unions” and allowing “homosexual” couples to have “rights” traditionally granted to True Marriage, but those laws won’t change God’s reality.
Fighting against God’s design is to fight against God Himself. It is a futile way.
I suspect that Lisa Miller knows that she will give an account to a higher authority than the Supreme Court of Virginia. She is morally bound to protect her daughter from a rogue civil government in rebellion against God.
The criminals are those who passed the laws that made this mess possible and those that would enforce them.
Janet Jenkins does not have any “parental rights” towards this child and the people of Virginia do not have the authority via their civil government to grant those rights.
I pray that Lisa Miller is able to shelter this child from this insanity until the child is 18 years old. I pray that the governor at that time grants Lisa Miller a full pardon from any supposed “crimes” and that we can see a full restoration of her liberty in the State of Virginia.
The version of God you’ve chosen to believe in just happens to be as homophobic as you. Gosh, how convenient for you, Jon.
Jon said, “I pray that Lisa Miller is able to shelter this child from this insanity until the child is 18 years old. I pray that the governor at that time grants Lisa Miller a full pardon from any supposed “crimes” and that we can see a full restoration of her liberty in the State of Virginia.”
If God had any active interest in this case, why didn’t He intervene to have the court give custody to Miller in the first place. Why would God wait until after the child turns 18 to intervene with the governor? Wouldn’t that make God seem incompetent? Maybe God would be intervening just to stop the irritating incessant nagging (praying) from His fans.
Jon, God doesn’t care about us. He mocks us for believing in him despite the fact that he wreaks all kinds of evil s**t on us.
Jon said “Civil government does not have the authority to contradict God’s design.”.
You’ve got it exactly backwards. Long dead primitive bronze age goatherders from the middle east pretending to be a god have no authority to contradict civil government.
What cheery responses.
