So, this happened:
A Michigan assistant attorney general who started a blog against the University of Michigan’s openly gay student body president has been fired, the state attorney general’s office said Monday.
Michigan Assistant Attorney General Andrew Shirvell had taken a voluntary leave of absence earlier this fall after his blog garnered national media attention. Shirvell, a graduate of the university, took issue with what he called the student body president’s “radical homosexual agenda.”

good, he deserved it. Lack of wisdom, bullying, stupid stupid and certainly not exemplary of the God he says he represents on his personal time.
Good. He needs to get help. But I get the feeling his boss didn’t really want to fire him but in the end felt he had to.

If he did it on his own time and dime, then i suspect that he is within his first amendment rights. As much as I find this twerp totally detestable, yet strangely fascinating, he might be within his rights, apart from possible libel and slander.
However, the AG office, headed by a man who frankly, probably does not care at all about damage he may do to gay people, may well have a policy in place about bringing discredit upon the the office. and even Mike cox could see that Missy here is a liability.
In which case, firing Andy is not outside of what is legally right, as far as I can tell.
I actually just found out a whole bunch more details. It turns out it was his work performance and oding it on company time. I don’t tihnk he would have a frist amendment case at all, though the RR will try to spin it that way.
Ben, I doubt if the Right would touch this at all. I think it is clear to everyone that this is a man with issues.
Hey, the Christian Right still has a use for James Hartline when it’s convenient, so I’m sure they’ll find some use for this guy.
I recommend he join forces with Peter LaBarbera. That way he can be as extreme as he wants to be, but get his fill of all the gay porn he secretly desires. And we’ll get to make fun of him as a wacko on a regular basis. It’s a win-win for everyone!
