It is good to know that Barron’s GOProud has lined up so many GOP votes on Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell and other LGBT issues that he has the idle time to needle the left.

The pathetic toadies at GOProud had this to say about Willow Palin using the word ‘faggot’ in a series of loutish FaceBook messages:
“Willow Palin is a 16 year old girl who, like all 16 year olds is going to make mistakes and say things she shouldn’t have. This, however, has nothing to do with Willow Palin or the substance of what she said on Facebook. The ‘slur’ used here is one you could hear on the streets of West Hollywood or Chelsea every day of the week. Apparently, it’s only a ‘homophobic slur’ when it comes from the daughter of a conservative female leader. Make no mistake; this is all about destroying Sarah Palin by any means necessary.
“The angry misogynistic left and their accomplices in the main stream media have been unable to take down Governor Palin – no matter how hard they have tried. Unable to take her down directly they now have decided to try to hurt her by attacking the most important thing in her life – her family. “Any person, gay or straight, who participates in this cheap political smear should be ashamed of themselves”
What GOProud is doing is called “projection”. The simple fact is that they are the ones defending the Palin family based on partisanship. The idea is that if you suck up to your enemies, they will admire you and decide you are worthy of support. Unfortunately, this strategy has been a dismal failure. Gay Republicans have been kissing ass on bended knee as long as I have been in the movement and the party has veered further right. Indeed WAY FAR RIGHT.
GOProud is correct to point out that Willow is only 16 and can make mistakes. But apologists like Tammy Bruce are delusional when they say that Willow’s comments are irrelevant. Sarah Palin is only where she is by proclaiming herself an evangelical protector and promoter of family values. Given this fact, it is fair to see what kind of family she has raised. Even more so because she has degraded and marginalized same-sex families who have clearly raised children with more class.
The sad truth is that GOProud could give a damn about LGBT Equality. They are simply a bunch of self-involved Uncle Mary’s who would sell this movement down the river for a tax cut on a pack of bubble gum. That they are trying to get in the good graces of Sarah Palin — who has nothing good in store for LGBT people — shows how out of touch they truly are.
I’d love to hear from the folks at GOProud and have them explain how elevating Sarah Palin is good for the LGBT movement and for America? Name ONE thing beneficial that she brings to the table.
Oh, yeah, I forgot, she can see Russia from her igloo.

This is disgraceful! GOProud deserves everything it gets from the haters and more. If it thinks that the homohaters of the Rethuglican Party are going to soften their stance, the Log Cabinettes and the GOProuders are very mistaken.

If Willow had used the N-word, you and everyone else would have questioned the parenting skills of Sarah Palin and what was being taught in that household. But, because it was only gay people (or perhaps you also think we are lowly faggots) the derogatory remarks are acceptable.
Your logic is either homophobic, hypocritical, or the product of self-loathing. I urge you to reexamine your comment or explain why there is a gay exception the rules of bullying and common decency.
I do think these Facebook messages are important as an indication of how Palin Family Values are such a farce. Fundamentalist and conservative christians genuinely believe that their theology lived is superior for promoting godly moral development in the young, while they abhor the idea that LBGT people might be able to raise kids as well or better than they. Their fundy family values chimera needs to be exposed for the sham it is, just like their pray away the gay & reparative therapy mythology. An inside peak into the inner dynamics of the Palin family might help dispel faith in this nonsense for some fence-sitters in the conservative camp.

Screw that Helen. Kids like Bristol are making life a living hell for thier high school peers and you can take you BS excuses for their heinous behavior and stuff it. Kid’s her age and far younger are well able to grasp a no bullying boundary and the reasons for it. A-holes like you excusing their bad behavior are the reason why so many LGBT and straight children committ suicide. You have blood on your hands Helen.
Youth is no excuse. I have a teenage son – he is not allowed to use slurs for other people. It is unacceptable, and he has NO PROBLEM understanding that. Why does she?

I think you can’t put Log Cabin and GOProud in the same box. The GOProud folk broke off LCR because the rest weren’t willing to turn the organization into a hate parade and LCR has been far better off without them.
Once GOPhate was gone, along with their cadre of folk who are defined by how much they hate other gay folk, LCR was free to pursue things like suing the gov’t over DADT and lobbying the handful of approachable Republicans on pro-gay issues.
I think that the defection of GOProud is the best thing that happened to LCR.
Timothy is correct that LCR is a much better org than GOProud. (We all love the court case)
But the larger problem remains that the GOP considers the Religious Right a key constituency. As long as they are trying to appease Tony Perkins, there is not much they can do (but harm) for LGBT people.

Everyone at this website presumably understands that bullying is reprehensible, that a kid who uses bullying words needs to be punished, needs to know that such mean, attacking language won’t be tolerated. It’s a lesson best taught by a child’s parents, teachers, and peers.
Willow Palin is not the only kid who used the f-word in the past week. We don’t search out and excoriate every on-line use of the f-word in social media, so why the WWW freakout when that word was typed by the daughter of the world’s most annoying woman? Most of the outrage, I conclude, is over this particular kid’s last name, not her tweet.
The world wide shaming of one 15-year-old girl who typed the f-word is not a gallant stand against bullying. It’s just bullying.

In fact, there are major efforts to stop bullying and admonish teenagers and schoolchildren from beating up and harassing gay kids and using the word “faggot”. The efforts of the LGBT community and our allies are not limited to the poor Palin family as your suggest. Please get your facts straight and stop turning “Poor Sarah” into a martyr.
Ever hear of GLSEN? Ever hear of Gay/Straight Alliances? Ever hear of the “It Get’s Better” and “Make It Better” campaigns? All of these are designed to stop bullying at the local level. None of them deal with the Palin family’s ignorance or offensive statements.
You are correct to say that the last name of this young woman makes it different. Sarah Palin was a VP candidate, a talk show commentator, the de facto leader of the Tea Party, author, and likely GOP nominee in 2012.

At one time all manner of people used the “N” word and if people like you had their way that would have never become unacceptable.
