Behold, the limited mental worldview of The Constitutional Originalist. Joe Jervis:
Speaking on Friday at the University of Richmond, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia denounced the concept of a “living Constitution” and said the 14th Amendment was not written with the intent of granting equal protection to ALL Americans. Just the heterosexual ones.
“The due process clause has been distorted so it’s no longer a guarantee of process but a guarantee of liberty,” Scalia expounded. “But some of the liberties the Supreme Court has found to be protected by that word – liberty – nobody thought constituted a liberty when the 14th Amendment was adopted. Homosexual sodomy? It was criminal in all the states. Abortion? It was criminal in all the states.” “The way to change the Constitution is through amendments approved by the people, not by judges altering the meaning of its words,” he added.
Joe points out that Scalia also believes women’s rights fall under the same category. Basically, he’s a misogynistic, homophobic pig. Excuse me, YOUR HONOR is a misogynistic, homophobic pig.

Typical of Scalia. Now let’s see how many more haters on the court he can get behind him. It is a dangerous precedent when due process can be denied to any group. I am pretty pessimistic when it comes to our chances for overthrow of DOMA or DADT. WQith a Supreme Court like this one, who needs enemies?
Of course, then the Second amendment only applies to muskets, becuase that is all the founding fathers knew.
Black people may or may not be 3/5 of a person.
and of ocurs,e the founding fathers always thought that corporations should be considered real people, and that money=speech.
thank you ronald reagan.
Scalia has never worked for the American people. He has always worked for the conservative movement.
He is a disgrace to the robe.
He’s also an ugly little toad of a man. I was at a Columbus Day parade a number of years ago in which he as walking. I had the pleasure of turning my back to him as he walked by. His body guards were a frightening looking bunch of goons who all looked like they were straight out of a Godfather movie.
Is it really appropriate for a Supreme Court judge to be making such speeches, particularly concerning matters about which they may rule in the future?
How then is it, Mr. Scalia, under your “strict constructionist” view of the Constitution that the Voting Rights Act meets Constitutional muster, or that multi-national corporations deserve just as much freedom of speech as a citizen? Is funding for NASA unconstitutional because George Washington hadn’t been to the moon? Scalia’s school of thought would mean that a huge number of rulings by the Supreme Court over the last two centuries are invalid. In fact, his school of thought for all intents and purposes means that We The People don’t need a Supreme Court! Just do away with the Third Estate! If it’s not in the Constitution, then it can’t be ruled on. Let’s just let everything be decided by majority rule…because clearly the nation’s Founders were terribly excited about the prospect of pure democracy. They were so certain that the majority would always be right about things that–I’m sure–the Bill of Rights was just a big accident. Jefferson and Madison didn’t *really* want a Bill of Rights. It sort of happened by mistake, I guess.
I understand that Scalia’s son, Paul, is a Catholic priest who has been outspoken against gays (http://noapologies.ca/?p=9790). But so was George Rekers, and we now know his secrets. So, one has to wonder. I just don’t think that psychologically well-adjusted men with educational and career opportunities would choose to become celibate priests. With Antonin being his father, was Paul’s fate sealed?
[...] Truth Wins Out – Scalia: 14th Amendment Shouldn’t Apply to Gays. [...]
Justice Scalia seems to be someone who knows what the Constitution is. I am happy to have a man on the bench who follows the Constitution, and doesn’t manipulate it to fit whatever someone wants in order to promote a cause. Just read the Constitution and follow it.
For Scalis etal, the Constitution means whatever he wants it to mean. That’s been obvious for some time. He should be impeached and removed.
That’s Scalia not Scalis.
