I served two years in the U.S. Army just after the Korean War. I am gay and showered along with the rest of the guys. We all had jobs to do and trying to have sex with another guy in the showers was the furthest thing from my mind. Even if I wanted to, how could I with several men often showering at the same time? Furthermore, I also showered with other guys in high school and college P.E. classes, as all gays do. Sex just doesn’t happen in those places, Mr. McCain!

I served in the Navy and I do agree with you Jerry that it is just impossible to have sex or even think about having sex when there are other men sharing the same facility. Besides, having sex was furthest from my mind…all I wanted to do was just do my job and be done with it.
Jerry and Ray, I think they know that gays won’t be having sex in the showers etc., it’s about their fear of being viewed as sex objects (even when that’s the furthest thing from our minds as you said); and even though many of them do the same thing to women and are much more blatant about it than gays are.
When these guys use the bathroom/shower scare tactic, I think it reveals something about their own character; they are the ones who totally can’t control their sexual impulses, and given the chance (say, being forced to use a unisex restroom while women were actually in there) they would definitely have to attempt to have sex immediately!
