The Illinois House passed civil unions yesterday, and now the Senate has followed suit. Now on to the governor, Patrick Quinn, who has stated that he will sign it.
Yay for separate water fountains.
[It's a positive step, of course...]

to those of us in the majority of the states with no “water” whatsoever, this is like a dream.
The fact that is not really a “beginning of the hour, headline news” actually shows how AMAZINGLY far we have come, and I for one, amd thrilled!
And, this is a legislature…not a court ordered thing. In the midwest (And Illinois is NOT as liberal as most folk assume…get a few miles south of Chicago, and it is a lot more like Indiana or Arkansas (I would say Kentucky, but they just elected a gay man mayor of their second largest city). This, while not perfect, is GREAT NEWS!
I agree Gene. I would have been so glad to have even civil unions in Indiana when I lived there. I decided to go to Canada and to marry there because my mum was the type that if it was legal somewhere that was good enough for her…plus we found a beautiful spot by the Detroit River to marry. But it would have been nice to be able to just have a legal ceremony in Indiana.
BTW, I wonder how long straight would put up with all the restrictions and discrimination that define our lives? Not much longer than a few minutes, is my guess.
It’s not even slowly but surely anymore. Guys and gals, we are barreling along, thanks to the efforts of all of you, especially Wayne Besen, Even Hurst and all the rest at Truth Wins Out.
