Oh, my lord.
Welcome to the New Normal, where hicks call for investigations into art exhibitions. Representative Jack Kingston, Republican of Savannah, people:
Direct quote: “Yew know what, ah support freedom of expression, ah support art, and if it is prahvately funded, and they wanna show a picture of Jesus bein’ eaten by ants, and they think at Christmas, tahme that that’s the proper thing to do, then they should do it on their own nickel, not on taxpayer nickel. This is in a public buildin’ with public staff, public taxpayers are subsidizin’ this exhibit, so to say that it’s privately funded is a joke.”
Uh. People in Georgia elected this man to Do Things. How sad.
Background on the story here.

so I guess ONLY christian TAX Dollars are used for this? Is this what that a*****e is implying?
IT’S NOT BEING SUBSIDIZED BY TAXES. IT’S PRIVATELY FUNDED.
Actually Emily, the Smithsonian is supported by tax payer dollars. And on this one, I agree.
I find it funny that the same liberals who lecture on tolerance turn out to be anti-Christian bigots. Would you support the same artist if he had desecrated a Koran?
I’m afraid that I have to agree with the Repub–do this stuff on your own dime. I’m both queer and in agreement with what I believe to be the artists sentiment, but as a libertarian, I’m compelled to point out that taxes are confiscated from some so that others can make such statements. This is not the sort of thing that govt should do.
Thorne, I don’t believe any tax money was used for this. Check your facts–don’t trust insane GOP congressmen.
I have to agree with him on this one. It may be privately funded but it is in a public museum – literally THE MUSEUM. Sounds somewhat salacious to me. Generally accepted standards should at least prevail in such a public venue.
Rocky said “I find it funny that the same liberals who lecture on tolerance turn out to be anti-Christian bigots. Would you support the same artist if he had desecrated a Koran?”.
Of course I would, all religions are bad. What makes you think I’d have any more consideration for Islam than I do for Christianity?
