I’ll let Alvin set this up for you:
Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association (one of the groups SPLC named as an anti-gay hate group) had a radio interview today on the David Pakman Show and in less than 30 minutes, he proceeded to totally wreck any claims by the FRC that religious right groups don’t peddle anti-gay hatred through junk science and propaganda, giving new meaning to idea of giving someone enough rope to hang themselves.
Indeed. There are parts of our jobs as activists and writers on the side of fairness, justice and equality that are difficult. But when it comes to exposing Religious Right bigots for what they are, we merely have to expose their actual words to a wider audience, outside of the ever-shrinking echo chambers where they are still viewed with respect.
The interview is fun, so enjoy:
Here, from David, are some of the funny things Bryan said:
“The southern poverty law center belongs on its own list [of hate groups]…for peddling falsehoods about homosexuality”
“We’re the ones telling the truth about the link between homosexuality and pedophilia.”
“Active participation in the homosexual lifestyle will deprive a male of anywhere between 8 and 20 years of his life expectancy”
“There is ‘no such thing as a monogamous homosexual relationship’”
“The rectal wall is one cell thick”
“We need to take our cue from gay porn actors”
“Those homosexual activists that are so intent on normalizing homosexual behavior…they must be harboring some deep seated longing to be straight”
“…homosexual activists must be latently heterosexual”
It’s too bad Bryan Fischer’s version of reality doesn’t resemble the actual, three dimensional one the rest of us live in, but that’s what fundamentalism does to the brain.

It’s sad how desperately they cling to their delusions even as they go down with their own sinking boats.
Inviting Fischer to be interviewed goes too far towards legitimizing his baseless hate.
Except that it exposes their insanity to a wider audience and shows people just how crazy the other side is. Their arguments aren’t convincing. Allowing them to speak freely is part and parcel of the conflict against them, because they damn themselves with their own words.
We should take the same approach to homosexuality that we do with smoking? So, there should be a surgeon general’s warning printed on our cocks?
Fischer; get a life !
David Pakman; I think I love you !
Hi Evan: The pathological nature of the hatred is such that I question whether it can be referred to as “a side,” by which I mean, when hospitalized mental patients say they are Jesus, or whatever, it is not as though their viewpoint is considered “a side” against that of their doctors.
I agree that there are not two legitimate sides, but at the juncture where we are, it’s better to have real journalists who are willing to call them on their s**t and let them hang themselves with their own words.
I would of course love to see them well-hung.
There has been some interesting debate on whether legitimate news ‘agencies’ should provide a platform for these asshats. I think that the more exposure they get, the quicker they’ll fade into history. Most thinking people, especially the younger generation, see them for who they are – antiquated bigots. The only ones who think this rhetoric is legitimate are those stuck in the same echo chambers as these false ‘christianists’.
It’s great that David Pakman does these interviews. He’s pretty amazing the way he pretty much lets these people hang themselves. I subscibed to his show back when it was still Midweek Politics and it’s been a great investment.
…its good to know that my relationship doesn’t exist. Die in a fire Bryan Fischer, die slowly in horrible horrible agony in a fire.
