In an attempt to explain away the tide of history, some writer named Peter Smith at LifeSiteNews is making excuses and coming up flat out wrong on why social conservatives are losing their ability to convince the still-alive generations of Americans to hate gay people:
These events [DADT repeal] should set off alarm bells for cultural conservatives: the message [hatin' on the gays] is no longer resonating the way it did in 1993.
Nope!
Conservative analyst John Guardiano argues at the Daily Caller that when it comes to “blame,” conservatives should look no further than themselves.
Social conservatives deserve to lose the culture war, he says, because many “pathetically inarticulate and tongue-tied” conservative leaders and journalists are failing to connect with the American people and make a persuasive case against politically and rhetorically savvy “gay rights” activists.
Guardiano lays bare the embarrassing, illogical rhetoric of the well-intentioned (but painfully wrong) Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and the intellectual vacuity of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) to make his point.
“Instead of avoiding so-called gay rights, ‘marriage equality,’ and issues of religious liberty and federalism, conservatives need to learn to talk about these issues with the same level of political skill, dexterity and sophistication that they talk about, say, taxes and missile defense,” he says.
Uh, they lie about taxes and missile defense, and they lie about gay people. The difference is that more and more Americans understand gay people because they know gay people, live with gay people, next to gay people, work with gay people, etc. Meanwhile, most Americans couldn’t explain marginal tax rates if you were aiming a missile at their heads.
The politicians and the American people no longer get why retaining the 1993 law was either good for the troops or good for the country.
Yeah, neither do the troops or the Joint Chiefs or the Pentagon report…god, it’s too bad social conservatives don’t have any outlets for their brilliant “messaging”! Somebody must be “silencing” them.
For most Americans, homosexuality is a very abstract concept. A look into the details of the lifestyle and its health consequences confirms fairly quickly that homosexual behavior is physically, sexually, emotionally destructive.
Actually, sadly, no. Again, it’s that for more and more Americans every single day, homosexuality is anything BUT abstract! Kids are coming out younger and younger, and there is more education than ever on the subject. Moreover, “homosexual behavior is physically, sexually, emotionally destructive” only in wingnut fantasy journals where up is down and Jesus rode a dinosaur into Jerusalem. It’s the harsh light of reality you’re fighting against, dude.
Anyway, for the rest of the piece, he cries about Will & Grace a little bit, and then he takes a Sad Nap in a puddle of tears, the end.

LOL
“he takes a Sad Nap in a puddle of tears, the end.”
LMAO! I love your wit Evan!
Evan, why do you mock Christianity in almost single post you make?
Nicole– he’s not mocking christianity. That’s your victim complex. He’s mocking stupid, bigoted, fact-free, judging-others, lying, distorting, hate-filled Christianity.
Totally different animal altogether.
Maybe when SOME christians stop acting in such a mock worthy manner, they won’t be mocked any more.
What Ben said.
My only statement related to Christianity in that piece, indeed, is in equating the sort of knuckle-dragging, fact-free fundamentalist Christians who believe that dinosaurs were around in Bible Times with the knuckle dragging fact-free fundamentalist Christians who make up their own facts about gay people.
@Nicole: I had to re-read the posting to find the fleeting reference to Jesus. Apart from the reference being rather non-offensive on its face, I believe its clearly satirical use was meant to underline the tendency of conservatives such as Mr. Smith to base their social opinions on the sandy soil of religious dogma and pseudo-science. Note that he’s not necessarily disputing that Jesus existed or rode into Jerusalem, but comparing the more-than-illogical hard-line Christian belief that the Earth is no more than 7,000 years old (i.e. then when did the dinosaurs live?) with the archaic viewpoint of Mr. Smith on homosexuality. He’s not mocking Christianity, but rather the ridiculousness of misguided opinion existing in the light of fact. Misguided opinion, and the promulgation of such, seems to be the only bastion for the intransigent conservative these days.
Oh Nicole, where to begin?
First off, Christianity, at least American Christianity, is worthy of mockery by virtue of it being so vacuous in it’s discourse that it’s become a parady of itself.
Secondly, Canada, Britain, even Isreal have had no problem with Gays in the military or any other branch of government. It is only because of radical christianity that this continues to be an issue, much like radical islam is pain in the a*s for the world. Same lyrics, different tune.
Sorry burst your martyr bubble but seriously, climb off the cross, someone else needs the nails and the wood.
Sorry about the spelling, that’s what happens when you type faster than your brain can process :)
Lighten up, guys. I happen to be a Christian, and I thought the Jesus-riding-a-dinosaur was one helluva funny visual! :D
@Nicole: Evan was clearly mocking creationism, and anyone who believes creationism is fact deserves to be mocked — mercilessly.
What Scott said.
It’s hysterical that people who believe that a virgin gave birth demand not to be mocked.
“Social conservatives deserve to lose the culture war, he says, because many “pathetically inarticulate and tongue-tied”
No, it’s because they’re a bunch of bigoted,lying troglodytes.
“Instead of avoiding so-called gay rights, ‘marriage equality,’ and issues of religious liberty…”
When has that ever happened?
Nicole,
Evan wasn’t mocking Christianity. He was mocking the type of Christians who literally believe God created everything in six days, that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, that Amurka is a “Christian Nation” especially favored by God (who has a temper-tantrum and causes some major natural disaster every time Teh Gays breathe the wrong way), and other such outrageous nonsense.
The reason people like Nicole take offense, I’m guessing, is that they’ve been brought up to believe that only those insane enough to believe the set of things everybody else has brought up [6000 year old earth, etc.] are the TRUE Christians, while everyone else is a backslidden heretic. To fundamentalists, you’re not a true Christian unless you’ve completely surrendered your brain and all workings therein.
O.k I get it now. :)
Christians are so sensitive. My god if they had to take half the s**t that gay and lesbians people take daily they’d be shivering on the ground.
Golly, Nicole sure seems to spend a lot of time in here.
@Becky — I’ll admit, if they took that amount of s**t on a daily basis, I’d be sitting by with popcorn at the ready. I WANT to see them break!

Nicole, it’s probably because ‘christians’ make it so doggone easy and FUN to mock them! There is a BIG difference between ‘christians’ and ‘Christians’! The christians spewing forth their obnoxious views of homosexuality are known today as the new American christian Taliban, who use the Bible soley as a WMD! Christians promote a loving Savior who would, upon his return, socialize with the lowly and the outcast members of society. That was his whole mission! The right wing conservatives not only miss the boat in this case, they’re not even at the correct pier. This is just a couple of reasons why they are laughed at and mocked.

Jeff, I would posture that if God were as great and all-mighty powerful as God claims, God could create the world in 7 days, or 700, 7,000, or even 700 thousand years, or if God was really under pressure, 7 minutes. These creationists are fear-driven that their little bible stories are going to go the way of the dinosaurs. They have no confidence that their God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and all-loving. As I’ve stated before, there is a BIG difference between ‘c’hristian and ‘C’hristian! To the nominative christian the Bible merely serves as a WMD against those who may disagree with their ideas and myths.

….but… if creationists are wrong, isn’t it funny that God choose the one means of creating life that made him redundant? 99 percent of all the species that ever existed are now extinct, after all… ;-)
