Raw Story reports that Rev. Pat Robertson is in favor of decriminalizing marijuana:
We’re locking up people that have taken a couple puffs of marijuana and next thing you know they’ve got 10 years with mandatory sentences,” Robertson continued. “These judges just say, they throw up their hands and say nothing we can do with these mandatory sentences. We’ve got to take a look at what we’re considering crimes and that’s one of ‘em.
“I’m…I’m not exactly for the use of drugs, don’t get me wrong, but I just believe that criminalizing marijuana, criminalizing the possession of a few ounces of pot, that kinda thing it’s just, it’s costing us a fortune and it’s ruining young people. Young people go into prisons, they go in as youths and come out as hardened criminals. That’s not a good thing.”
How ironic, it took the issue of drugs for Robertson to finally say something sober. Whatever Pat’s been smoking, I don’t want it. Talk about a bad trip!

Yeah Pat! Just lock up the gays, who take a couple of puffs ! Bet that’s what you’re thinking, you old fart!
I have positively no respect for this man whatsoever!
I never thought I would see old Pat taking the liberal position on, you know, anything.
Stopped clocks, etc.
Oh please, he’s probably looking for a new business opportunity. Instead of medical marijuana, it’ll be getting high for Jesus. Let he who is with sin get stoned first.
I wish people would get their facts straight. Even though CA recently had a legalization of pot ballot measure, it didn’t pass. The language was too broad. And just like with Prop. 8, a lot of scaremongering and misinformation is out there about who gets in trouble and to what extent with marijuana.
1. Decriminalizing it won’t take any profits or profit motives from larger gang cartels. They have their hands in many other smuggling and fraud schemes besides drugs.
Why NOT USING DRUGS doesn’t occur to people, as a means of taking profits from ‘real criminals’ doesn’t seem to be as popular solution doesn’t make sense, right?
2. Casual use, doesn’t land you in prison doing serious time (which is two years, min. to 6 mo probation). It’s a run up of OTHER crimes that do that. Such as dealing, DUI’s, assaults connected to USE and being under the influence. There are some states that take a harsher stance after several probationary periods have been violated.
3. Marijuana, unlike alcohol consumption, isn’t individually contained. Exposure is different, and most people THIS committed to having it, aren’t that considerate around those who don’t want to be exposed or have no choice.
4. Prisons in CA are not ‘full of people there on minor drug charges’, we haven’t had the room or financial ability to do that for nearly twenty years. The prisons have people in them in trouble from other exponential issues connected to their addictions.
Decriminalization doesn’t address what happens when people are no longer of much use to themselves and their families.
5. Medical use, is still a matter of proving to need it, and benefit from it, like any other drug that is prescribed by a doctor. Otherwise, just like anything else that alters you, abuse is a risk because of the lack of dosage, efficacy and potency regulation. Which doesn’t happen with below the line marijuana use.
6. I think as a factor of cultural and individual freedom, and responsibility, there is considerable distortion of facts. Marijuana is not harmless, and it’s irresponsible for it to be spoken of that way. I would be all for it’s decriminalization, if the back end of RESPONSIBILITY and accountability were enforced.
But the push for this in and of itself is symptomatic of people wanting all the freedom, but with no accountability.
And accountability, is the most important factor of all.
Hey, Regan, way to spew government-approved lies.
The truth is, marijuana is virtually harmless, and FAR SAFER than alcohol or cigarettes (both of which are legal).
Beyond that, the government has absolutely NO RIGHT to tell me what I can ingest, who I can sleep with, whether or not I have kids, or whatever the hell else I want do do with my body.
Finally, the government should have learned from their first attempt at Prohibition — It doesn’t work. It didn’t work in the 1920′s, and it doesn’t work now.
