Peter sat down and did an interview with disgraced and dishonorably discharged former Navy Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt the other day. If you want to listen to it, and why would you, knock yourself out. [Apparently Klingenschmitt talks about the time he performed an exorcism on a lezbeen! This is hilarious, because Fundamentalist Christians think their religion is for grown-ups, when it is obviously little more than a particularly bizarre precursor to Dungeons and Dragons, only with more childish fear in the mix.] I only seek to call attention to the fact that Peter is likely well aware of the fact that Klingenschmitt has been lying for years about why he was discharged, but in Jesus’ name, Peter continues to pretend the lie is true. Here is what really happened to Gordon Klingenschmitt, according to his former boss:
“I was the dishonored ex-chaplain’s supervisor for the past 2 years,” Holcomb wrote in his message. “I found him to be totally untruthful, unethical and insubordinate. He was and is contemptuous of all authority. He was not court martialed for praying in Jesus’ name. I sent him out in uniform every week to pray at various ceremonies and functions. He always prayed in uniform and in Jesus’ name. He was never told that he could not pray in Jesus’ name. In fact, the issue of prayer had nothing at all to do with his dismissal from the Navy. He disobeyed the lawful order of a senior officer. I am sure that you understand that Navy Regulations forbid any of us, regardless of rank or position, to appear in uniform in support of any political or partisan event.”
Holcomb goes on to say, “He appeared in direct support of a political event, demonstrating contempt for the order of his Commanding Officer and Naval Regulations that we all swear that we will abide by…. The ex-chaplain is a man without honor and you have accepted his story and in doing so you have had ‘the wool pulled over your eyes.’
“A man without honor.” This is to be expected in an interview subject by the leader of a very small hate group. Now here’s Peter spreading the disgraced and dishonorable toad’s lies further:
Chaps is founder of the “Pray in Jesus’ Name Project,” named after his much-publicized struggle to pray in Jesus’ name in public and without restrictions as a U.S. Navy Chaplain — which cost him his career in the service.
Nope! Liar, liar pants on fire. It’s too bad wingnuts are so focused on five or six Bible verses they think are about homosexuality, when the commandment against lying is so clearly staring them in the face. Disturbed and dishonest…that’s a winning combination. It’s also why we’re winning.

His nickname is Chaps.
That … Um … Bwahahaha!
That might explain why Pete loves him so, I mean every closet case has to have a secret pair of chaps
Why do people assume folks like Peter LaBarbera are secretly gay?
You would never say a racist secretly wants to be another race.
You would never say a misogynist secretly wants to be woman.
So why do those who hate gays must be gay?
I don’t want people like Peter and his ilk to ever be a
member of our tribe. EVER!!!
Because it makes sense, Alonzo. You wouldn’t say a racist secretly wants to be another race, BUT you would be right to say that, especially these days, as racism is socially unacceptable, the especially racist person is probably riddled with fear and insecurity over the idea that a minority might be better than they are.
Same goes with misogynists.
And for those who are virulently anti-gay, they are often struggling with fear and insecurity over whether they might either A be what they fear the most B no longer be respected as the straight male arbiters of society by virtue of their heterosexual penises or C some combination of A and B.
Alonzo, a lot of people who are vehemently anti-gay have been found to be gay themselves. They think by angrily rejecting gayness that will help them to suppress their own same sex attractions and eliminate other people’s possible doubt that they are heterosexual. I myself went through a brief period where I was angrily anti-gay in a temporarily successful attempt to suppress my own same sex attractions.
Evan & Priya while I believe what the both of you have said is valid, there something you both are neglecting about a lot of anti-gay people.
1. Their interpretation of their religion is anti-gay therefore it is the driving force of their bias towards the LGBT community.
2. Being anti-gay has become a profitable industry for a lot of them. Therefore it pays to be anti-gay.
In my opinion to label a anti-gay person as a “closet case’ is not only a insult to the many of people who are force to remaining in the closet for whatever circumstances there might be but it’s also a insult to every single happy and open gay person.
When a virulently anti-gay person is found out to be gay themselves I fully believe that they should be made to pay for all the harm they may have cause our community. But until they are exposed or voluntary come out they are nothing more than haters plain and simple.
Proof that it’s not about whether or not folks like Peter may or may not be a closet case, for a lot of them this is their professional lives:

Alonzo said “Their interpretation of their religion is anti-gay therefore it is the driving force of their bias towards the LGBT community.”.
While that is likely true for some or most anti-gay people it certainly is not true for all of them. Some people ARE anti-gay because they are attempting to suppress and hide their own gayness. As much as you hate it, denying reality won’t change it – those people are members of our tribe.
Priya – I agree as there are self-hater through-out all of human-kind. In the case of self-hating gays until they are exposed or voluntary come out – I see no need to label them gay.
[...] in Jesus’ name.” This has been debunked thoroughly and his allies know it, but fundamentalist mouths don’t mind lying when it serves their purposes. In short, Klingenschmitt fits right [...]
