Once in a while, he reverses course in the right direction…
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Thursday he would work to help implement the repeal of the military’s “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, despite his opposition to that legislation.
McCain signaled he had made peace with the lame-duck bill to do away with the military’s ban on openly gay and lesbian service members, which he had sharply criticized.
“I think I have to do everything I can to make sure that the impact on the morale, retention, recruitment and battle effectiveness of the military is minimized as much as possible,” McCain said on Fox Business. “It is a law and I have to do whatever I can to help the men and women who are serving, particularly in combat, cope with this new situation. I will do everything I can to make it work.”
That’s very mature of you, John.

I am happy and concerned at the same time. Letting this man help implement a law that he had highly objected too is suspect and questionable. I see him screaming the loudest “told you so” while throwing a monkey wrench into the mix for his own personal agenda.
So I am highly skeptical that this will be a good thing.
McCain is up to something….and its not constructive.
Well, of course it’s not constructive. He’s John McCain, a man devoid of principles. When DADT repeal is implemented and it’s all fine and dady, he’ll suddenly pretend he supported it all along.
This is an absolutely worthless statement. McCain is not in the military hierarchy or the Defense Department. He will have no part in the implementation of any new policy. Other than his opportunity to vote for or against the repeal of DADT in the Congress, which he failed, how can he “help?” Will he counsel unhappy soldiers who are now too frightened to shower? Is he going to light some incense and send some good vibes our way? Political baloney at its worst!
I’d just keep a close eye on whatever “help” McCain gives. I don’t trust him.
I like to be a trust-but-verify kind of guy.
John McCain has done little to inspire my trust, so I’ll wait to see what he actually does with this change of heart.
Does “making it work” actually mean a phased, 5-year implementation of repeal? Straight servicemembers’ right to refuse to serve under a gay officer? Chaplain’s rights to turn away lesbians or gays?
John McCain does nothing that is not self-serving in some way. He is loathsome.
Actually, no one needs nor wants his ‘help’. Let the leaders of the military do their jobs in implementing the Repeal and stay the hell out of it. And why you’re at it, STFU!
