Roy Edroso compiled his favorite twenty-five quotes from CPAC for Esquire, and my goodness, this is really all you need to know about what appeals to a large portion of the citizenry. For instance:

What’s frightening is that gay conservatives actually think she’s onto something. Stupid liberal gays, wanting to be treated with dignity and equality, rather than just being offered a seat at the table and a semi-promise that nobody will punch them.
CPAC was surreal. The exhibit room included kiosks from GOProud as well as PFOX and CitizenLink (which had anti-gay and “ex-gay” materials on its table). The conference agenda also sported a workshop on the “traditional family.” Why an LGBT group like GOProud wanted to be part of this event is beyond me.

#22 is actually bang on.
#17 is correct as well, just not the way he means it– quite the opposite, as the GOP degrades our public discourse to degrade our country and institutions to degrade public discourse in a never ending daisy chain of intelectual, political, financial, and internaitonal relations decline.
