As Pam said, they’re about to “leave us in the cultural dust” yet again. The United Kingdom has had civil partnerships for years, but things are about to change:
The British government is expected to announce full marriage equality for gays and lesbians under reforms to marriage laws expected to be announced later this week by the Liberal Democrat equality minister, Lynne Featherstone.
The announcement will also include the time table for civil partnerships to be held in religious buildings. The reported move will end the final major legal discrimination against gays and lesbians in Britain.
Good for them.

Glad to see this happening. See what happens when a country does what is right instead of what a bunch of haters think should be done.
This country (US) is so backwards it’s not funny. So sad that we have to keep fighting a battle to retain/gain the right to something as simple as marrying the one we love.
Both countries are in the cultural dust. Your neighbor to the north has had equal marriage for 6 years.
@Matt, Indeed.
Six entire years in Canada (after four years of fighting province by province). And it was only 1989 that Denmark became the first country to have registered partnerships (still no “marriages” there yet, though).
It’s interesting to see the UK experience. Considering that they’re a decade ahead on full inclusion in military service, it’ll be instructive to see how the marriage game plays out.
