How Painful Is Marriage Equality for Fundamentalists?

THIS painful:

We are upset because the argument for gay marriage is out of step with orthodox Christianity and Judaism and is seen by those who know the Bible as mankind’s way to make the Bible meaningless, and for man to insert his own sinful way. To put it another way, every time someone says that homosexuality is fine and gay marriage is just a “civil rights” issue, it feels like the devil handing us an apple to eat.

That came from a letter to the editor in the Baltimore Sun, in response to the paper’s endorsement of the marriage equality bill making its way through Maryland’s houses of government right now. I don’t usually quote letters to the editor, but that one just made me laugh. It feels like the Devil is Handing them Apples! I personally don’t know how that feels, but I’m not a professional victim, as Fundamentalists are trained to be. Well dude? You live in a secular democracy, and soon you will have to learn to deal with the fact that no, your religious beliefs do not trump my civil rights. So I ask: HOW YOU LIKE DEM APPLES?

Its not a matter of keeping their religious views personal.. Its a matter of the LGBT citizens of this country being cash cows for the religious right. If you take out abortion and gay equality they have nothing left to support the muliti million dollar life styles of their leaders. They use fear as the tool. We are the scape goats.They dont want to take responsiblity for the problems this country is facing..Drugs alcohol teen pregnancy…

You’re spot on, Evan, when you called them on their seeming “victim status”. The fact of the matter is that THEY are the ones who try to use the Bible to further their agenda by spreading hate disguised as “love”. Talk about “inserting his own sinful way” into the Bible, these people are the EXPERTS on that. I guess practice makes perfect.

Oh, and if they are using the reference of “apples” to refer to the fruit that Eve handed Adam in Genesis it was the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil……it was NOT an apple. Sounds like their getting their fairy tales mixed up. You want a poisoned apple? I’d like to refer you to the wicked queen in “Snow White”. Imbeciles. If you’re seeking to marginalize a whole segment of the population in an effort to spread your self-righteous doctrine, the very LEAST you can do is get your facts straight.

Homosexists want to create garriage and call it marriage. This will not save them from their struggle because there is no freedom from gender. It does not exist. There are only 2 sexes and not 3. The universe is based on duality of femininity and masculinity. Changing oneself is very hard but it is still easier than changing the laws of the universe. Maryland politicians can’t change amrriage. Even God can’t !

And stephen D., as long as this person is invoking Orthodox Judaism in their letter, the serpent wasn’t “The Devil” as Christians see it. It was, as described, a snake with legs (which it lost after the business with the pomegranate or whatever fruit it was). Jews don’t even believe in “the devil” or “original sin” or any of that platonist/pagan bullcrap.

Hey Paradox, I admire your guts for taking on a gay news website with your limited edition thinking. The UNIVERSE is based on male/female duality? That is only in the “universe” that is tightly wrapped around the head that contains that limited thinking ability. We have yet to figure out if there is ANY life on ANY other planet and you’re making pronouncements about the universe? Let’s face it: you didn’t think this stuff up all by yourself, you didn’t even really think at all. You just repeated something that someone in Christian Authority hammered into your head. I have a hard fact for you: REAL life is nothing like you’ve been told according to the Bible. We are real people with all the attendant needs, wants, dreams, and desires. Maybe same as you? Try understanding REAL life for a change. It doesn’t mean giving up your faith beliefs, it just means applying where they should be applied and that is mainly to yourself, your kids, etc. AND stop giving your money to the goofball organizations that use this perversion of religion to keep you fired up and willing to part with it so easily.
